I am Tsaukpaetra. You might try to ask me anything
Because it's the fad of the day. And I'm procrastinating homework.
Tread Rules:
- I'm me. I'm probably not anyone else.
- Toes may be stepped on, but nicely, preferably as a butterfly kisses a flower before being destroyed by a magic thwomp.
- If you crash my system, I'll be .
- You can ask anything of my various personality engine modules. They may not respond (especially if they are not in a state capable of making a response, see #0).
- Questions regarding PII may be responded to via obfuscated means. This isn't an excuse to try out the obfuscation engine!
- Deleted posts will automatically be flagged when available.
- By reading the thread rules, you implicitly agree to abide by them. By posting in this thread, you accept to uphold them.
-
Nice and quiet. Now that's what a lawn should sound like.
How long until the silence is broken?
-
Now.
-
What does the obfuscation engine have to say about
**_*\**)** ??????????????????????????????
-
- Do you run forums for living?
- What is the purpose of engine? It it a bot? why did you write that bot?
- How many of you ers here run Discourse/forum? and why?

How many of you ers here run Discourse
:hand:
why?
It's fun(ny).

How many of you ers here run Discourse/forum? and why?
Too damn many of us.
At it's root, because we, as far as I know, uniquely among Internet microcultures, have a specific interest in software quality as well as the ability and will to explore the quality of various software.Many of us have little defective bits of brain that make us feel good when we find a bug or work around some obscene bullshit problem or make somebody else look like an idiot.
Discourse does not have a very high level of quality. Discourse is very complex and rife with obscene bullshit problems. Jeff Atwood's mouth wrote a lot of checks his software couldn't cash. It is therefore something that has a very good tickles-the-brain-damaged-bit to time-spent ratio.
For example, the ENTIRE TDWTF bot thing came about specifically because Jeff said that because Discourse relied so heavily on Javascript, bots (and automated spam) wouldn't be practical.
And what if you want to scrape a little bit of text out of some posts? [code]QuoteStripper = new Regex("<aside[^>]+>(?>(?!</?aside).|<aside[^>]+>(?<Depth>)|</aside>(?<-Depth>))*(?(Depth)(?!))</aside>", RegexOptions.Singleline);
var vfsb = new StringBuilder("(?:(?:##)?|##) ?(?<action>vote|unvote|kill)(?:)?(?: (?:<a class="mention" href="[^"]+">@(?<target>[^<]+)");
foreach (var p in Players.Values)
{
vfsb.Append("|(?<target>");
vfsb.Append(p.Name.ToLower());
vfsb.Append(")");
}
vfsb.Append("))?");
VoteFinder = new Regex(vfsb.ToString());[/code]
Shit like that happens. Hacking on Discourse is fun.

If you find a hammer do you start hitting your balls because it is funny?
I would, but that's painful. Not funny.
Weng's post above summed it up quite nicely. It's one reason I hope we don't migrate (at least for a while) because we can continue to mess with Discourse and we actively use it. That means people will notice when you find a fun quirk/bug; also, the staff here don't ban you for screwing up the forums.

Depends on the perspective
Too damn many of us.
That I figured (and was puzzled why so many apparently capable coders are into the boring business of forums software)Hacking on Discourse is fun.
I am glad I do not know Java Script I guess.

Neither do I, more or less. Doesn't stop me. Jack Asswood just didn't understand that you can hit JSON endpoints from arbitrary clients, or something.

What does the obfuscation engine have to say about
Invalid header: lookup table not set to a reference of an object.
3. Do you run forums for living?
2. What is the purpose of engine? It it a bot? why did you write that bot?- How many of you ers here run Discourse/forum? and why?
- No, I don't have enough energy and free resources for that!
- Social Integration program. It was apparent that sexual humour is an important aspect of group social acceptance, and properly reacting to and possibly generating statements alluding to could be an important aspect of this.
- None of me runs Discourse/forum. Because >See_Number[0]
What is inside ring 0 of the system.
WAL 1, Continuum 4, Ring 0, Stage 0, contains:- Primary Entity
- Ramen Noodles, Maruchan, two packets cooked for 26 minutes with sauce packet pre-mixed in 5.2 cups of water under high heat, drained, and mixed with 1.4 cups finely shredded medium cheddar cheese of the Tillamook brand.
- 4-item task list, sixteen bytes per entry
- Male Changeling Borg drone, communications class, serving as personnel interaction advisor
- Female Andalite science officer, serving as tactical awareness
- [Damaged] Dream recording device. Current status: Memory unavailable, using L2 Cache.
If you find a hammer do you start hitting your balls because it is funny?
Engine: It really depends on the method, speed, force, size, and angle of entry for the hammer. For most (non-surgical) activities, this action would not be taken due to humorous circumstances.Not funny.

I'm not a fan of Puppet-eers, but I've a nagging fear someone else is pulling at the strings,
Something terrible is going down, through the entire forum wreaking anarchy and all it brings!
I can't post idly, no I can't read at all. I curse the name, the behind it all![Chorus]
Discourse! I'm whooshing through the moon, and muting all the flamewars like a WB Looney Toon™
Discourse, whatever did we do to make you take our forum away?
Discourse, are we your prey alone, or are we just a badger hole just taking out a toll?
Discourse, we won't take it anymore, so make your cooties go away!!!!
[/Chorus]I'm fine with changing topic titles, but not in flagging posts; now the forum is being torn apart!
A terrible catastrophe, played by a symphony what a terrifying work of art!
I can't post idly, no I can't read at all. I curse the name, the behind it all![Chorus, x2]

Do you have any idea how hard it is to deal with quotes when using DiscoMarkBBCodeHTMLWTF? Where <aside> is also a legal tag?
SockBot's raw stripper has most things covered, but not all -- including the easier way for unattributed quotes, a Mafia favorite.
-
Where <aside> is also a legal tag?
<aside>Now that I need to test.</aside>Huh. No visual effects…
-
This is a quote.
> This is also a quote.This is also, also a quote.
@TwelveBaud said:This is an attributed quote.
<aside class="quote">This *was* a quote in earlier versions of Discourse.</aside>[code]This is a code block. It should be ignored, just like a quote.[/code]
This is a fenced code block.
This is a `-language code block. ```
This is not a fenced code block, even though it looks like a `-language code block. It's an inline code span.
<code>This is an HTML code span.</code> For bonus points, get rid of the blank line between the `-language block and the one after it. See what happens. Dealing with cooked is surprisingly much easier, since all quotes are wrapped in `<aside>`s and all code blocks are wrapped in `<pre>`s.
-
would whatever people use to write compiler's parsers solve it?
-
No visual effects, but it is making it into the raw HTML of the cooked post...
-
Discourse doesn't use anything near that sane.
-
I was referring to SockBot's implementation
-
good target for custom css.
aside { color: #3463c1; font-style: italic; }
maybe, to use for off-topic toughts?
-
If you're trying to get it added to the default theme for people in general to use it... not discoverable enough.
It'd be nice if it hid by default, and then we could use custom CSS or JS to reveal the secret writing, like HTML comments in the articles... although I guess we could use "" or something similar (view source or raw to see what's between them).
-
...and here's some JS to grease them:
var observer = new MutationObserver(function () { [].concat.apply([], document.querySelectorAll(".topic-body .cooked :empty[title]")) .filter(e => !(e.offsetWidth && e.offsetHeight)) .forEach(e => { var n = e.parentNode.insertBefore(document.createElement("span"), e.nextSibling); n.style.fontStyle = "italic"; n.style.color = "#3463c1"; n.style.whiteSpace = "pre-line"; n.innerHTML = " " + e.title + " "; e.removeAttribute("title"); }) }); observer.observe(document.getElementById("main"), {childList: true, characterData: true, subtree: true});

You forgot to add
$("*").addClass("fa-spin");

What is your stance on erotic Star Trek fanfiction?
-
Why are you not running it against raw?
Raw doesn't seem to have the same performance implications as Source, so we cache the Recycle Bin.
Engine: You have to give them a break for a few seconds to let the senses reset, otherwise it could just get boring.Do you have any idea how hard it is to deal with quotes when using DiscoMarkBBCodeHTMLWTF? Where <aside> is also a legal tag?
Engine: Depends on how you say it.would whatever people use to write compiler's parsers solve it?
It cannot be solved using mere parsing! We need more trees for that!maybe, to use for off-topic toughts?

I agree. It would be nice if we had the ability to edit our own posts.
