Worst name possible for a field like that.
At least you know if they fill it in they're idiots or robots.
Of course, the real problem is that spammers seem to use cheap people to do the spamming these days, rather than bots. Short of blacklisting a long list of countries from being able to create accounts at all, I'm not sure what to do about that.

Cutting your sandwiches on the diagonal is like eating your eggs from the wrong end. Just Don't Do It.
Generally a sandwich is "something" between two (or not in the case of an open sandwich or similar) other "somethings" that are considerably different to the original something but are similar to themselves.
-
I believe a compromise can be achieved and that is why I cut my sandwiches at a 22.5º angle.I'm lying. I eat them whole.
-
Another thing that I do that probably makes Texans cry is that I like to dunk peanut butter sandwiches in chili.
If the chili has beans, that's probably OK. It's already been adulterated.
-
Depends on the location. I'd expect a hamburger to come with bun in a snackbar, but at a butcher or (the meat section of) a supermarket I'd be looking for just the patty, and buy the bun separate.
-

Things have improved over the last decade or so (at least in my general area) but I still don’t usually order a hamburger in any kind of snackbar or similar eatery if I can’t see a sample of the thing they propose to sell me as one¹ before I order. The buns and patties themselves tend to be OK nowadays, but you never know what else you might get on it. One place I used to buy chips every now and then put rasped carrot on their hamburgers by default, for example.
¹ Usually by glancing around to see if anyone else is eating one, and if so, what it looks like :)

It's probably much easier to break the captcha by farming it off to thousands of people for $0.001 per captcha, although definitely not cheaper.
-
I would like some pictures with that.
-
I believe someone mentioned a while ago one way is to take the captcha and put it in front of guys downloading porn.
Ah yes, here it is in the old forum archive:

ISTR there were but I couldn't find it in a quick search, it's been a while...

Generally a sandwich is "something" between two
I cringe when someone refers to the products one buys at Subway "sandwiches" because they are not!
-
I think that's SolveMedia. They also run marketing captchas ("enter 'Walmart is awesome'").
Yes, I've had to suffer through SolveMedia first-hand. Their "problems" were (at least back then) trivially solvable with OCR, but that wasn't the point. The real idea was to shove some more advertisement down your throat. (If your ad-blocker stopped it, you couldn't reach the content behind.)
-
I cringe when someone refers to the products one buys at Subway "sandwiches" because they are not!
Yeah, but you Americans call a pizza a pie, so I don't really trust your food definitions
-
Yeah, but you Americans call a pizza a pie, so I don't really trust your food definitions
But is not inconsistent with the rest of their language, not that I offer this as an excuse, but just wanted to reinforce your point :)

You mean tickets?
-
Yeah, but you Americans call a pizza a pie, so I don't really trust your food definitions
Not many Americans younger than Dean Martin though.
-
I cringe when someone refers to the products one buys at Subway "sandwiches" because they are not!
? OK, let me hear the reasoning on this one.
-
- because a sandwich requires at least two pieces of bread
- because Subway(tm) doesn't sell "food"
- because GLARGL FARGL WIP FWARK
- because virgo is rising in the house of cancer
- because aliens
- because history channel
- because i said so
- why am i not numberingthis list?
- because a burning bush told me to
- because some dude caused the sea to part
- because some other dude was a lizard and walked on water
- because sunspots
- because that's what the iliuminati wants you to think
- because because
- none of the above
- all of the above
- that last one triggers a paradox

Where is a hamburger not considered a sandwich?
In Germany there is a city called "Hamburg". People living there can (and will) be referred to as "Hamburger". They are - shockingly - not sandwiches.
Filed Under: And yes, without context it is impossible to know if a German means a Hamburger-sandwich or a person from Hamburg.
-
Filed Under: And yes, without context it is impossible to know if a German means a Hamburger-sandwich or a person from Hamburg.
given world populations and distribution of german speakers i calculate that the balance of probability is that any given occurence of ambiguity will resolve to the german speaker talking about the food item.
Therefore the word hanburger can be assumed to always refer to the food item, to within two sigma of certanty
-
given world populations and distribution of german speakers
Sure, but since the question I replied to was as to "where" a hamburger was not a sandwich, I feel confident that I am allowed to reduce the scope of the relevant statistics to the people that live in and around Hamburg. In which case the the margin changes quite drastically.
Also, McDonalds/BurgerKing/WhateverFoodPlace will always give you a burger instead of a person! Don't worry.
Filed Under: We also have "Berliner" (food) and "Berliner" (person from Berlin), in case German was not confusing enough for you!
-

hmph. if you wish to maximize, instead of eliminate a statistical anomaly.... sure that works i guess.
-
because a sandwich requires at least two pieces of bread
What do you call an open sandwich then? Because that's generally what you'd call a "sandwich" here in Poland - the two-piece ones are mostly for situations where you need your food to be portable. Besides, Subway's sandwiches did have two pieces with ingredients inside, last time I was there.
because Subway(tm) doesn't sell "food"
Elitist. For a fast food joint, their sandwiches are really damn good.

a sandvitch. because it's as fun to say as it is to eat.
Elitist. For a fast food joint, their sandwiches are really damn good.
they get the job done for sure, however they are rather overpriced given the quality you get.
-
because a sandwich requires at least two pieces of bread
If I just need a snack, I will take a piece of meat, a slice of cheese and some mustard, put it on some bread and then fold that piece of bread in half. I still consider that to be a sandwich.
because Subway(tm) doesn't sell "food"
True, they mostly sell the weight-loss story of a pear-shaped man from Indiana University.
-
the weight-loss story of a pear-shaped man from Indiana University
... an Indiana University student that drank two cases of soda every day and then, shockingly, lost a ton of weight after reverting to eating a reasonable number of calories per day. This is a guy who could have gone on the Burger King diet and lost weight.

SolveMedia
Oh, just got a captcha from them. Or rather, I didn't, because it got blocked. By a fucking Flash blocker.
-
because some dude caused the sea to part
I only know of one sea that was definitely parted. Cost 5 years and tens of millions to do and 20 years later it earned itself back in one night. But I fail to see how that is related to sandwiches.
-
It don't, its just a general B clause to a query
-
I'm not American and I don't call pizzas pies. Well, I sort of did when I worked at a large pizza chain and the computer system used that term for how busy it was: "pie half hours" - but I never used pie outside that context!
-
One pizza just over every three hours! Or, as I see you said, half that.
-
Besides, Subway's sandwiches did have two pieces with ingredients inside, last time I was there.
They used to do a "V cut" but I haven't seen that in many years. I was saying the type of bread used by Subway is distinct from the type of bread used at say Maccas which is distinct from the sandwich you'd make at home with sliced bread. If you slice your bread without using the whole loaf it's a sandwich. The bread at Subway is effectively a while loaf per sub.
Elitist
Around here they often have $7 foot long specials which is cheaper than most alternatives.
-
three hours
Pies per half hour... If there were only π pie half hours there would be troubles!
-
If you slice your bread without using the whole loaf it's a sandwich. The bread at Subway is effectively a while loaf per sub.
So you are saying that if they do a sub it isn't a sandwich? That seems like a wonky definition (plus it misses the 6" which is half a loaf).
-
Yes, like a hamburger isn't a sandwich.
Also even for 6 inch it's still not cut like sliced bread so still not a sandwich proper.
-
You people are such sandwich bigots.
You can have my submarine sandwich when you take it from my cold dead hands.
-
Filed Under: We also have "Berliner" (food) and "Berliner" (person from Berlin), in case German was not confusing enough for you!
The one that a famous American president believed meant "person from Berlin" is really the delicious pastry, and the one that Americans would wonder why you're referring to a nudist cruise ship with is the person from Berlin.
See? Not confusing at all!
-
Sandwich is the the general version of all those things. Hamburgers are sandwiches but not the other way. Actually here maybe this will work better to describe how this works:
public class Sandwich
{ }public class Sub : Sandwich
{ }public class Hamburger : Sandwich
{ }
... an Indiana University student that drank two cases of soda every day and then, shockingly, lost a ton of weight after reverting to eating a reasonable number of calories per day. This is a guy who could have gone on the Burger King diet and lost weight.
Yep. That's the one.
But, also the one who realized his idiotic story was marketable and is now worth ~$15M.
-
My local UPS store is next to a Subway store. It smells soooo good whenever I go in there.
But what was really funny was the Foodbabe crusade against their bread. ZOMG! Chemicals!

I was updating myself on this topic, when I found myself asking "How the hell did a topic entitled SVGCaptcha mutate into a discussion about sandwich". Topic hijacking and Title shenanigans not withstanding, and found this to be the precursor to the catalytic Post.
In the context of the Title, and the preceding posts, this was a very valid point. No blame can be attached to this contributor.
The actual catalyst, is the very next post. A courageous attempt was made to avoid the inevitable, but it failed. Within a couple of more posts the mutation had taken hold, and the future of the topic secured.
Oh, there have been other attempts to derail, and a few futile attempts of getting back on track but this topic can expect solid growth now.
Unless, of course, this post provides a vector for a new catalyst......
That woman is nuttier than squirrel shit.
Has potential.

Theirs not to reason why. Theirs is but to derail and die.
