Real solution: /r/mechanicalkeyboards

I have two mechanical keyboards. One has a poor connection and starts dropping keystrokes until I slap the top a few times, the other one has serious problems with 3 - 4 keys registering which can be temporarily fixed by popping the key off and re-installing it.
I like how they feel when they work, but I hate spending $80 on a keyboard and have issues like that when the $5 crap keyboards work perfectly (until they wear out 4 months later).
(Both were open-box because I didn't want to spend $150 on new keyboards, so RMA isn't a thing.)

You should get @codinghorror's keyboard: http://blog.codinghorror.com/the-code-keyboard/
It can't possibly be less reliable than Discourse!
-
I mean, it is made by WASD, so it was mostly out of Jeff's hands.

Thanks, but given how often I actually use Windows, and that I solved the problem by just switching editors I don't think it will see much use.
Also, the post you're replying to is not about the clipboard thing, I just posted stuff out of context because I was tired and annoyed, reading it back it doesn't really make much sense on it's own...

No. It was a comment right after requesting some stats p0rn.

I've wanted to replace them with something more reliable (and still mechanical), but I'm 0/2 on trying to get a reliable, high-quality mechanical keyboard, and they're from two totally different manufacturers and even retailers. I'd hate to spend another significant chunk of change and end up being 0/3.

And obligatory Discourse being Discourse...got an "Unknown Error While Saving Post" for the above post that evidently did NOT error and worked just fine.

Status: Trying to decide whether I give enough of a to file a defect, or just revert to a previous version so I can get my stuff to work... Found this in a library I have to use:
function void foo::toString() string s; ... return s;
Obviously, nobody tested this before declaring it "beta" quality, because it won't even ^#%&$&*$^%&% compile!

Didn't actually use one yet, though.

Intern had no idea
fn.bind()
,fn.apply()
andfn.call()
even existed. He spent 2 hours reading up about them on MDN and elsewhere. I explained to him multiple times, with examples and everything. He's still confused.Now I gave him a homework to write his own implementation of
fn.bind()
, for Monday. Expectations: low.

No media keys is the dealbreaker for me.
-
-
Volume Up, Volume Down, and Mute at least should be first-class citizens. Probably Play/Pause also.
-
For a home PC I'd agree, for a work PC I could live with the above. It's better than the £4 Dell effort I'm using currently.
-
No media keys is the dealbreaker for me.
Doable:
You have to use Fn, though. And it's not an issue for me anyway. 99% of the time I use headphones that have all the controls I need on them.

You what's annoying about keyboards? Nobody makes ergonomic mechanical ones.
I bought one of these for my home use—for about $400, you'd think you could get one with Cherry MX switches, but no...
<a href=http://www.comfortkeyboard.com/keyboards_comfort.html
I didn't put the numeric keypad in the centre like this picture, though. That's retarded...
Seriously, though, somebody needs to a start an ergonomic mechanical keyboard business. I'm literally sitting here on a big pile of cash to throw at you if you can make one for me.
-
Real solution: /r/mechanicalkeyboards
I'd be willing to try mechanical keyboards, except for two things:
- I need a good ergonomic keyboard. A quality ergo membrane keyboard takes some effort to find. A quality ergo mechanical keyboard is a real PITA to track down.
- Standard mechanical keyboards cost quite a bit. Ergo mechanicals are expensive.
Between the time and money necessary to find what I would need to even try a mechanical keyboard, I'll stick with my tried-and-true Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000.

M gets all the breaks!
Seriously, though, mechanical keyboards such ass. I've never once gotten the appeal-- the entire universe switched to the rubberized ones on purpose, you know, it wasn't like some kind of crazy hostage situation.

That's interesting looking. I think I'd probably want to try one of those for a few days before deciding whether to buy one though...
Their about page is pretty enigmatic...

There was a phase in my last office when we found out that IT could spend up to $150 per person on new keyboards, so literally everyone in my area of the office got some kind of mechanical keyboard (mostly Das Keyboards, IIRC). One guy got the blue switches specifically because he wanted the loudest keyboard he could get his hands on...
-
Yeah. The kind of people who enjoy mechanical keyboards: assholes.

Do you mean, "write his own example of using fn.bind()"?

Hi all,
Why do we keep committing very large files into the main repo? Binary files should not be tracked in git (or if they need to be, they should be tracked outside of the main repo, IMO). Is this something about the .NET world I don’t understand?
When I
git pull
, it takes forever, esp. given our Digital Fortress connection issues.Right; it's a ".NET world" issue that prevents Git from working correctly.

Three guesses what I read the bolded text as at least twice...

If I said all three guesses, would that summon @ben_lubar?

@Boner, @Onyx, re: "Two handed shift + key combo replacement for real media keys"
Ahmm.
Porn.
Case closed.

Do you mean, "write his own example of using fn.bind()"?
No, it's pretty easy to write an fn.bind() implementation using fn.apply().

It's one-handed. You just have to stretch your fingers a little. (Fn is on the right side).

What? No no, you people go ahead, please, I had my fill for the day.

I was gonna ask how @aliceif knew that the key combination could be done one-handed, but I couldn't make it juvenile enough...

Bad @JazzyJosh. Bad.

Also, FFFFFAAAAIIILLLLL.
The correct one is:
<script>window.alert('Hello')</script>
</alert>
is not a valid HTML tag...

Wow, that was a pretty impressive fail.
My mind just completely stopped working after I was done typing.
Anyway, just because I can:
@trwtfbot <script>window.alert('Hello!')</script>
