Just sharing this.

Not surprising, but I'm just going to share.
In the topic on meta.d that revolves entirely around codinghorror deleting posts without a trace with no notification, he just deleted
two three fourfive additional posts that weren't inflammatory in any way, and were posting in response to another use.Filed under: No, really. Not surprised.

Jeff, as seen modding meta.d
-
Is there a badge for being banned from the meta.d?
-
I don't think that he wants to antagonize Jeff that much.
-
Pity. There really should be, although I suspect it would be entirely too easy to earn if one were intentionally trying to do so.
-
It would probably take less than a minute. Probably less than 8 seconds.
-
Can you like @HardwareGeek's post? Or your post get liked? I tested something that broke the likes for me (I get 'sorry, an error has occurred') - Just wanted to see if it was for everyone or just me.
-
I had no problem liking posts in this topic.
-
Liking seems to be working normally for me.

The irony is just super think in that topic on meta.d.

RAW POST PRIOR TO MEMORY HOLING FOLLOWS:
Sure you could -- say it's a support topic and 5 of the 40 posts are no longer relevant due to something that happened downstream. How does that justify a) notifying 5 people and b) dismissing 5 pop-up dialogs?
It's possible that those 5 people remember those posts being there and might want to find them later for reference.
Here's another question. What if the user thinks he's making a good post, and can't figure out why his posts aren't there any more? Maybe he figures they just disappeared into the æther? Server error or something? Is he likely to get into more trouble if he keeps trying to make his point in the same fashion instead of addressing whatever the problem is?
-
This is getting beyond a joke. Jeff seems to be disagreeing with the same people on a wide variety of subjects. It can't just be coincidence. It's just good old fashioned bias.
He's just disagreeing with us on everything because it's us.
-
We'll see. I mean...I get that he has a particular way of administering his own forum. But he can't even admit that other people at other sites might legitimately want to do things differently.
Now, of course, I've obliquely brought up @Matches being suspended without mentioning him, and @downey replied to that, making it a little more awkward for Jeff to memory hole me. But my reference does bring up a good point.
We'll see...

How come on the one hand @system closed this topic and on the other you were able to reopen it?
-
Mysteries of Discourse, eh?
-
I can't understand how he can argue that silently deleting posts is a better approach. It's only going to cause confusion and does nothing to address the underlying problem.
I agree, silent deletes should probably be an option (that's debatable), but it certainly shouldn't be the only option.
-
Elder abilities?
-
Moved from onepost when Jeff decided to go ham.

@Boomzilla recently became a 3rd degree blackbelt. He's now the Chuck Norris of TDWTF.

This is perhaps the most insightful post I've seen on meta.d:
What I can't understand is how Jeff turns his edge case into everyone's default.

Copying to things our customers have said about discourse

I just read most of that thread, so I have to ask the obvious question.
Why do all TDWTF posters have Mr Burns as their avatar? Please provide a source, I would assume it is a joke at Jeff's expense?
-
Screen shot for posterity so we have a memorial when it's deleted?

Because Jeff bans tdwtf users who don't have a burns avatar. Proof in op

If only this was an actual policy over there.

Sort of. Originally, we all picked the same avatar. They ruled that was uncool (which it kind of was...it was really hard to tell us apart). They made a policy that identical avatars were not allowed, so we picked similar avatars, namely different pictures of Mr Burns.
The idea was spawned in the Likes thread. You can (theoretically) find that stuff in there. Can't remember exactly, but the original idea was a combination of @abarker and @Onyx.
-
The Burns thing was genius. I've had many a chuckle about that one :-)
-
I assumed so, and I guessed it was related to megalomania in some way. Many things spill out of the likes thread elsewhere, but I can't keep up with that thread so I never tried.
-
I find it pretty funny and I don't even watch The Simpsons. If it was my idea, we'd all be using Dark Helmet or President Skroob instead.

From my vague recollection:
- we broke the scrolly thingy (again) by reaching 10k posts
- this meant we can annoy Jeff by reporting it on meta.d (annoyance coming from the fact that, according to him, no one will ever make such a topic)
- this prompted someone to say "Excellent", followed by a picture of Burns... you can extrapolate from there
And no, not looking for it. But it's in low 10k's, somewhere.
-
What I found so great is that it was a crystallising moment where everybody was in perfect sync, resulting in a great troll.
-
I think that everyone who has an account on meta should change their avatars to this.
this is the suggestion, the burns pics are slightly higher up the thread.
-
sup.

Are you Jeff in disguise?
-
Yay. More Atwoods. There weren't enough douchebags associated with the Discourse project already.
-
-
At least he admits he's evil.
-
And invented ForumWarz. I sometimes wonder if this is relevant.
-
This post is deleted!

It is pretty hard to upset me.
That might sound like a challenge 'round this here parts.
Not a threat, just sayin'
-
Thanks for the warning I've deleted my post.

Thanks for the warning I've deleted my post.
Did you send yourself a notification about it?
Sorry...couldn't resist lol.
-
Is ForumWarz something I should be aware of? I've seen it dropped like 3 times with the assumption everybody's heard of it.
-
It's an online game with turn-based 'combat' where the central theme is 'hacking forums'. Created by eviltrout, which seemed like a highly interesting form of meta-trolling if you were so inclined to see it that way.
-
Is it other people's forums or... what? And what does "hacking" mean in this context?
