Old avatar displaying
-
My old avatar is displaying in the top right. I only changed it 4 days ago:
That should be an eagle, not a wolf.
Edit: And no, I have no idea how to repro.
-
Don't worry, the wolf will live forever in quotes:
http://what.thedailywtf.com/t/poll-shall-the-dragon-consume-codinghorror/1194/50?u=onyx
Also, I think I found another one just now, brb, spamming the
Bug
section.

Don't worry, the wolf will live forever in quotes
I'm aware of that, but the wolf shouldn't appear in my live interface.
-
Additional info: when posting, the icon of the post briefly displays my old avatar before switching to my new avatar.
Using Win 7, Chrome 35
-
ctrl+f5 fix it? Did you log out/back in yet?
No, really, did you?
-
Seriously, DC should be able to handle that stuff on your behalf without the user having to manually fix shit.
-
It's not like it's still showing me logged in when I clear my cache and cookies.
Waaaait a second.
-
Ctrl+R did fix the originally posted issue, but, as @Arantor mentions, I shouldn't need to do that. Plus, it wasn't an issue all day Friday, or at any point today until just five minutes ago. So it appears that something changed that triggered this issue.
Edit: Still seeing the brief display of my old avatar when posting.
-
There's a post somewhere that explains how the header title has no relation to reality, and uses jquery on some type of cached information and @codinghorror doesn't know how to / doesn't want to bother checking for valid information when moving around the forums. (Thus, if you clear your cache/cookies, you'll show logged in. If you change your avatar, you will see your old one)
Ah, found the topic:

Don't worry, the wolf will live forever in quotes:
That's interesting, because if you mod a quote to a different user, it re-references the avatar too when the post hits rather than showing the avatar of the actual poster (which is what happens in the preview. I thought it was pulling the avatar by username realtime, not just copying from old posts.

Very interesting now...
Having no avatar is a barrier to reading.
Two Avatars, one post?
Nope, editing the post re-did the old avatar.

Still seeing the brief display of my old avatar when posting
At least awhile ago (I haven't looked too closely recently), I would see the generic letter avatar quickly after posting, even though I never really had that avatar (I started with this on Gravatar and uploaded it manually before they did the switch to just uploaded and the letter for people without an avatar).
Edit: I didn't see it this post, but I'll keep an eye out for it.

You need to clear cookie, sprinkle holy water on your computer, clean it with wet issue paper and then reboot it.
If above step not working, reinstall operating level system. FTW. QFT. QED.

Yup. Noticed that as well, but I didn't say anything because... well, abuse potential
Wonder what happens if the user in the "hijacked" quote changes avatar. Hilarity, I hope.

Filed under: seriously though, it is, even more so without post counts

Having no avatar is a barrier to reading.
-
It really is. How are you supposed to know where a post starts/stops with no avatar? Or if you want to ignore a post because it's a certain user?
-
Changing avatars is a barrier to reading.
I started it mainly as a way to confuse @morbiuswilters. Since he's not posting anymore, I do it in his memory. It's kinda my thing.
-
Yes, now I can make dozens of posts at once with extremely confusing buttons.

It should change too. They are mini-avatars of your existing avatars.
Filed under: avatars here, avatars there, avatars in my hair
-
See, @codinghorror, this is EXACTLY why we need a dislike button.
@darkmatter You did fail though, there's no 'reply to' or timestamps on the images.
-
Just doing my part.
-
How are you supposed to know where a post starts/stops with no avatar?
Oooh, we want a contrasting way to know where a post starts, do we? Getting all high and mighty, eh? A 1px grayish horizontal line not good enough for you, eh? Well I'll tell you something my lad. When you come home tonight and some homicidal maniac changes your favourite forum to look like Lings' Cars, don't come crying to me!
-
Close, but the color difference on "darkmatter" makes it... more confusing.
Touche.
Filed under: And my spellchecker switched to UK somehow, because it no longer likes the word "color"
-
I thought we all did a peer review on Ling's site and found it acceptable and best practices?
-
And no bunch of loganberries alongside that?
-
Interesting how it retroactively fixes your posts' avatars but not posts that quoted you.
-
Apparently Discourse inserts the link to your avatar directly into quotes, and there is no method setup to update those references.
This, as opposed to something sane, like doing an avatar lookup when the post containing the quote is being rendered.
-
You're doing the logic thing again. Stop it.
-
Where do you think we are?

Replies made while I'm trying to read the suggested topics keeps pushing the suggestions off my screen while I'm trying to click on them... then I click the wrong thing by accident.
Reminds me of those old javascript pages where they move the button when you try to hover it.
-
Of course, you're doing it wrong!
-
You're doing the logic thing again. Stop it.

Well, I've made a similar reference before:
-
And then you click back, but the suggestion list is completely different than the one you were looking at.
-
As it has been pointed out to me, somewhere, using the back button is doing it wrong™

sprinkle holy water on your computer
That will let out the magic smoke and destroy it! My pc runs on Possessed OS version 666.
-
That will let out the magic smoke
What's this "magic" smoke? I only have the white smoke. You know, the one from the First Law of Electronics:
All electrical devices run on white smoke. Once the white smoke escapes, the device ceases to function.
-
white smoke
You never have tried freeing the magic smoke have you? It definitely is not white and smells rather funny. White really doesn't cut it.
-

White smoke. Don't breathe this!
-
White Smoke is some welled reference to Popal election in Vatican?
-
But is this smoke on the water, or fire in the sky?
-
A deep purple smoke? Only seen that with two stroke oil.
-
-
Reboot your computer.
-
Doesn't fix it, chrome auto resumes where you last left off.
-
This is so weird, we give you a brand new URL,
http://what.thedailywtf.com/user_avatar/what.thedailywtf.com/abarker/45/3084.png
3084
is the unique id for your upload.
-
I figured something like that was going on, since old quotes still show the avatar that was in use at the time of the quote. What made it really weird is that it didn't happen until I'd been on for a few hours yesterday.
-
ahhhhh ... old quotes is a nightmare to fix, we need to rebake all the posts you were quoted in after an avatar change.
-
This looks like a Geocities page.
