I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream is free on GOG for about 32.5 more hours:

@Dragoon Strategic Sage did an LP of that game that's reasonably comprehensive. There's also a sequel in the works.
Also, it's written in nearly pure WinForms (!) and although manifested for high DPI doesn't actually support it, so expect things to be a bit . I tried to fix it for the LP but it's also (early version of) Dotfuscated and .

I converted a board game to WinForms some time ago...

Status: Rediscovered one of my earlier attempts at game programming, a game called Domination! (Not my name for it, that was the actual name of it).
It's an adaptation of a board game:

I think it's pretty fun, but since I hadn't made any kind of AI it does require another player minimum,,,

Santa Rockstar HD on Indiegala:
https://freebies.indiegala.com/santa-rockstar
It's a Guitar Hero knock-off with rock/metal versions of Christmas songs, not by Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Looks competently-enough made, and is supposedly compatible with USB guitar controllers from other, similar games that you may be familiar with

This is not a hilarious point-and-click(-and-drag) game.
It does not take the concept of breaking the fourth wall and run with it.It did not keep me entertained for 7 and a half hours, and I do not fully recommend it. (no caveat that as with all the things humour it may be hit-or-miss depending on your tastes) I do not applaud the game's creator for their creativity.
There is no link to the free game jam edition if you were to be interested on getting a sample of what it's like first.
I did not overdo the denial joke thing.

GOG giveaway: Iratus Lord of the Dead
-
Five bucks. Very nice roguelike.
-
If you're looking for a store brand Final Fantasy clone, you can give this a try. It's free for however long these giveaways last
-
Over 900 crap games and a few good ones (CrossCode, Celeste, Superhot, Batbarian, probably others).
$10 or more, half the money goes to war effort.
6 days left.
-
@Gąska On the one hand, CrossCode, Baba Is You, and probably a bunch of others in the bundle are good. But on the other hand, between Steam, GOG, Indiegala and maybe even Itch itself (I don't recall if I ever got anything from them) I may already have all the good games from this collection. Maybe for $10 it doesn't really matter

Streets Of Rage 4 is 40% off on Switch. Is it as good as I remember the old ones being? Better?
-
Load of stuff, including some well-known items. $40 minimum, with everything going to Ukraine humanitarian relief.
-
Axiom Verge is 70% off on Switch. I hear it's quite good
-
Never heard of it but it's free on GOG for a couple days
-
A bit late, but Postal 2 is free on GOG for the next 5 hours and about 40 minutes:
-
A friend of mine just released this. Currently a free download. A bit of an excuse plot: you're a white blood cell defending the body from infectious invaders. Actual gameplay: you're an anime girl blasting away at waves of attackers with an improbable anime arsenal.
-
A remastered version based on the 360/PS3 version from 2010, including all the DLC. I haven't got it yet but at 80% off it looks like a great deal
-
@hungrier I have it on PC, it's worth the full price let alone that price.
-
@loopback0 I played the original Hot Pursuit on PC way back in the day, but from what I've seen of this one it looks great
-
Big Cities: Skylines bundle. Every bundle includes the full game but even if you already own it, the biggest bundle is cheaper than just a couple of the DLCs are normally.
-
Garage types, please take a lot at this Garage post if you're interested in getting this bundle.
-
-
If you want Epic on you shirt, Bioshock is available
-

GOG is giving away Sanitarium for the next 46 hours and 45 minutes:
-
Capcom is giving away Street Fighter 2:
On Steam
On Switch
On PSN
On Xbox
You'll need the base Capcom Arcade Stadium to play it, and it's free as well. I think it also comes with some other games
-
Shantae and the Pirate's Curse is free on GOG for the next 47 hours:
-
@ChaosTheEternal According to the page's title, it might just be 50% of the game
-
-
Is Celeste any good? I've heard it is. Anyway it's 75% off on Switch
-
@hungrier I enjoyed it, and I think it's an excellent case study in bringing variable difficulty levels to a game without compromising what the creator was trying to do.
-
@hungrier I tried it (it was free from the Epic Store) and gave up not that far in. I don't have the patience for these types of "do the platforming room over and over until you succeed" games any more. It ran fine, FWIW.
-
@Parody try Assist Mode, it might change your mind - https://celeste.ink/wiki/Assist_Mode
I mean, it might not, but the game devs did try to make the game experience accessible in a lot of ways, specifically targeting the kind of frustration you mention.
-
@Arantor No, thanks. We talked about frustrating game types/elements a couple months ago in the Status Thread. (One of my posts.) Precision platformers are just not something I enjoy nowadays. If I cared enough about the story (and the player's commentary was interesting) I'd watch someone play it on YouTube.
-
@Parody fair enough. Just a few people I know tried it, got stuck and didn’t realise they could tweak it more to suit them because it wasn’t well signposted on initial release.

Beautiful Desolation is available for free on GOG for the next 71 hours:
-
@ChaosTheEternal From the page:
From thriving villages to crumbling cities, petrified forests and bone-dry ocean beds, this strange new world holds a multitude of terrains to uncover, beautifully rendered in 2D isometric art.
Uhhh, no. "Beautiful" and "isometric" categorically do not go together like that. Isometric perspective is a lazy hack developed before 3D graphics took off as a cheap trick to make 2D sprites into something that looks kindasorta 3D-esque if you don't look at it too closely. But it's ugly and it's cumbersome, frequently getting in the way of what you're trying to look at, largely because it's an optical illusion that only works with very specific fixed camera angle, so you can't simply rotate and look at things from a different direction.
We've had working 3D for decades now. Why isn't isometric perspective dead already?
-
@Mason_Wheeler because some people like the look. In the same way some people like playing older games. I mean, do you work for Sony and are confused why people still want to play PS1 games?

It wasn't a lazy hack, it was a very clever hack. It is a style that defines computer RPGs for many (Baldurs Gate) and is even emulated in full 3D (Divinity: Original Sin) {though they use a slghtly different form of projection, it has a similar look/feel}.
It is an art style like pixel graphics just because we can do something else, doesn't mean that that style isn't adored by many.
-
@Dragoon said in Game Deals Thread:

It's the reason Baldur's Gate is literally unplayable. I keep hearing good things about that game. I've tried, over and over again, to get into it, but the isometric perspective interferes with the gameplay so heavily that I'm never able to progress quickly enough to keep my frustration with the cumbersome interface from mounting to rage-quit levels.

Isometric is more specific than 45° overhead camera. Many 3D titles allow free rotation.

So not unplayable than. In fact, seems like the game is good.

Yeah, this is certainly a you problem. The interface can be a little clunky at times, but given the age of the game that is to be expected. Like playing Warcraft II today and being limited to selecting only 12 (think it s 12 anyway, been awhile) entities at once.
-
-
@Dragoon I can't get into older Fallouts for similar reasons. They're great games and genre classics just like BG, but they're dated and clunky as heck. I recognize that it's largely a me problem, but there it is.

9, actually.
Thanks, I was racking the brain, but it has been to long, haha.

Yeah, I tried to replay Warcraft 1 a few years ago and it was so hard to adjust to the limitations of the game. Limitations that I have no recollection of when I think of the fun I had playing it the first time. C'est la vie
