Though it does enforce the point of it being an unfortunate solution to a non-existent problem - I didn't notice the decimal in there at all.

You probably did, this company has been around a couple of years (and recently got a ton of investment money) and this idea has existed for a long time. Water is much simpler system, but people like to point out the "harms" that the lakes cause.

But if you're going to build a storage widget... just build a couple of big-ass cisterns instead of a wobbly pile of bricks that's totally not going to fall over in a weather incident or erosion incident or big-tree-roots incident.

But what about when those cisterns break? Won't someone please think of the children?

I'd find a meme of children being swept away in a flood, but there's a really big in the way.

You want to put up giant artificial structures filled with one of the most effective solvents known to humanity. Golly.

@HardwareGeek the question is not if, but when.

@HardwareGeek Within limits, little larger sizes are possible. Beyond Theraphosides (e.g. tarantula), there is the cute orb weaving Nephila pilipes:

It can be found in Japan, China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, Myanmar, Indonesia, Thailand, Laos, Philippines, Sri Lanka, India, Nepal, Papua New Guinea, and Australia.
Of course.

@BernieTheBernie What we really need are daddy longlegs big enough to defend their webs from assault by hummingbirds looking to steal silk to make their own nests.

@Benjamin-Hall Wow. That's almost exactly like Snow Crash, except completely devoid of futuristic safety equipment that helped suspend the disbelief in the original book.

On the other hand, if this means I get a horse-sized spider to ride to work every day, I'm in. Figure it's more fuel-efficient than a car, and you can park the spider in a dark corner of some random building for the day.

While it may take care of finding its food there.
When correctly engineered, the spider could e.g. suck out petrol from old-style cars.

But think of the people with arachnophobia and/or trypophobia.
You need to park the spider in plain view, preferably close to an office window.

From the "old lady who swallowed a fly" principle, this is just the beginning. Someone will next breed giant hummingbirds who will raid the spiders' webs for silk to build their nests, and the spiders will be helpless to stop them.
-

No-one can currently stop a bird supported by plasma tornadoes, that I know of.

Either way, transport-spider should only get tasty food.

@cvi I've read an article about a cow farmer who, if he wants to slaughter one of his cows, takes a long rifle and shoots the cow from 500 m away. That way the cow is dead before knowing what will happen and, due to the distance, the sound from the shot is not so loud as to frighten the other cows. Usually, the cow simply falls over and the others are only a bit curious for a short while.

That brown stuff at the end? Very likely nitrogen dioxide (they're using nitric acid and furfuryl alcohol as a hypergolic propellant). That's something you do not want to have in your airways in any amount (and I'm speaking from experience here).
But sure the two bozos at the end are running downwind...
There's more:
I particularly liked the countdown at 2:50 in that one. Also, as a commenter points out, this is not so much an engine test than rather a semi-controlled explosion.
