Ms Birch said she placed an advert for a "happy" part-time, fully qualified, stylist on the Jobcentre website on Wednesday morning.
But an hour and a half later, she was "amazed" when she got a call from the DWP.
"They said we can't place your advert because you have put a discriminatory word in it and we need to change it," she said.
"They said you're not allowed to use the word happy, in case somebody thinks they can't apply because they are not a happy person."
Not to get too garagey, but I can imagine a salon specifically wanting to hire a gay hairstylist and putting code in the ad.
That's what they think happened, right?

@Applied-Mediocrity
with a side loadedis this real? And recent? because it feels like it's from the voodoo area.
Custom AMD Mountain Bikes. This bike is designed for many years of fun and comfortable transportation. This 21-speed bicycle is loaded with great mountain bike features including twist grip Shimano index shifting, linear pull MTB brakes, dual suspension frame, and a comfortable Mountain bike saddle. Kickstand included. 18.5” Custom Design Steel Dual Suspension Frame, 21 Speed Shimano Rear Derailleur, Twist Grip Shifters, 3 Piece Crank, Linear Brakes front and rear, Alloy brake levers, Alloy quick release seat post, Alloy Rims, 26” Alloy Wheels.
For less bike experienced let's rip it apart:
- twist grip: ok, uncommon choice but still possible. just strange because to my knowledge Shimano doesn't make these anymore for their high-end
- brakes: ok, serieous? disc brakes are rather common for 10 years on MTBs. this is a red flag, this is a must for a new MTB you are going to, you know off road with
- Kickstand included: why? the bike is meant to ride, not stand
- 21 Speed Shimano Rear Derailleur: Oh Lord is it
- 3 Piece Crank: Oh dear, it is. this is really a sign of old or cheap technology. It's like seeing a pc advert with a spinning disk in it. Sure it still works but it doesn't inspire as a modern, fast pc.
- 26” Alloy Wheels: this is even worse ... this is a dying wheel size ... MTB has switched to either 27,5" or 29".
Conclusion: stay away and buy a decent bike.

It's like they took a child's bike and stuck an AMD logo on it.

I never understood this. I got an MTB, with kickstand. My friends couldn't contain their surprise, "that's an MTB or a city bike for sissies" , "why would anyone want a kickstand, lol" , and so on.
So now when we ride somewhare and take a break, I park my bike, they throw their bikes on the ground. Clearly I'm in the wrong here.

I mean obviously you have ... umm ... worse aerodynamics? Higher weight? I'm really at a loss what the disadvantage of the stand should be even if you don't need it.

It's surprisingly difficult to find an English translation of Banause. Most just "translate" it as Banause; thanks, that's really helpful. Google Translate suggested dropping the adjectival r, but then proceeded to detect the language as Hindi. When I forced the input language to German, it still translated it as Banause, but at least it gave some useful synonyms.
For the benefit of others who don't know the word, it means peasant or philistine (uncultured person).
I do appreciate the Tanzmusik, though. Darf ich bitte einen Walzer haben?
-
@HardwareGeek I particularly like how "We're broadcasting dance music!" is perceived as a threat.

is Google Translate in 2020. Seriously, it's absolutely terrible and completely unusable.
My recommendation

Given the circumstances it's likely to be some Fortnite macarena rather than any cultured sort of synchronized footwork, so yes, it's a threat.

@Applied-Mediocrity “Tanzmusik“ definitely sounds like from a time before using English words for everything was cool (Académie Française thread is ), so probably something at least as old as that radio in your picture.

When my then-fiancee-now-ex-wife were in Berlin, we went to a Tanzcafe, so I know good Tanzmusik does exist in Germany (or did 25–30 years ago), and not all of it as old as that radio.

Do you realize that's racist?
@Kamil-Podlesak said in In other news today...:
It's being racist too.
And it is not even correct (philistine is Philister—it is a specific reference to The Old Testament after all).

A new era of leadership performance across computing and graphics is coming.
AMD is going to start writing usable, detailed and publicly available developer documentation for their products and technologies? Release cross-platform APIs to access those things? Create examples and demos? Develop good tooling and tell us how to actually use it?
That sounds awesome.
