No - it's deliberate. It''s either that, or have black bars each side when showing video captured on a phone held in portrait mode, when displaying it on a medium presented in what is effectively landscape mode.
I have a photographer friend who refers to filming video in portrait view as filming gansta style.

Wait, "beer" with sugar? Yeah, we got that but we're rather upfront about it:
Ah, I see you didn't RTFA. NTTAWWT.
I did read it. In Germany you're not allowed to call it beer if you add stuff besides hops, malt and yeast to it - before, after or while brewing it.

That's still malt, just not barley one specifically; the rules don't insist on barley. The article says:
significant proportion of malted barley is replaced with malted wheat
Though I think the rules actually do insist on barley for bear without any adjective, and allow other grains as long as appropriate adjective is added. They still don't allow additional ingredients.

As far as I understand, wheat is added in the form of malt. Even corn would apparently be okay (though we don't use that, that's what Corona is for) if you are being literal, just not corn syrup.
Per wikipedia's definition of malt:
Barley is the most commonly malted grain, in part because of its high content of enzymes, though wheat, rye, oats, rice, and corn are also used

I was a bit disappointed in TFA that they didn't go into even a little bit of detail about how the corn syrup was used. I'm guessing it was put in as extra food for the yeast to eat, but I really have no idea and obviously too to look further to see what they're doing with it.

As a New Worlder, I find it amusing that German law still has references to the Holy Roman Empire.
Edit: I guess that's not that shocking. The Holy Roman Empire didn't end until 1806.

Some expensive high-end watches have sapphire panels. But maybe it just costs too much to do that for something the size of a phone screen.
(I looked into DIY growing sapphire crystals once, just for fun. It's not even that difficult, although getting your mixture pure enough for the resulting material to be reasonably transparent is probably beyond most DIY'ers. You still get one of the strongest substances around, though.)

Based on a quick Google search, most of those are more expensive than my iPhone (which has a glass front and rear) so yeah that might be it.

Yeah, there was at least one discussion about that here. They were pushing their supplier to produce bleeding-edge product with high quality, on a shoestring budget, and they needed it yesterday. Fast, cheap, good — you don't get all three.

agreed. in the business environment Apple Ain't Cheap. It ain't fast, not unless you are counting 32 feet per second per second as fast. and it ain't good. Not if you want them to interconnect and talk to each other using non appleids, because you can't apply domain policies to appleids as they're foreign to our domain, and we can't federate trust with the appleid domain because they're apple ids, why would you need any other id and..... oh i'm sorry, I appear to have accidentally bitten your MacBook in half...... in anger..... because i was trying to get it to read our Exchange server for your work email..... That's going to have to get sent out for repairs. sorry about that.

I don't know particulars, but all laptops at my current job are Macs (they like to spend money and/or pretend to be trendy). The log in to the machine is a local account but everything on the network is handled by Active Directory.
