Something has triggered FileVault to decrypt the SSD on my work laptop. i suspect McAfee because that was attempting to rotate the recovery key at the time. As FileVault being enabled is a requirement of AnyConnect allowing VPN access, I can't use the VPN either.
Now I have to let it spend half a day to decrypt the drive so I can restart and let it spend another half a day encrypting the drive again.
-
@loopback0 Decryption done, encrypting...
Apparently that's good enough for AnyConnect to allow access again.

Status: One of our users has spent all weekend doing production runs on our testing infrastructure, triggering lots of our CI integration testing builds to fail. And I deleted some of his results almost as soon as they were generated (before he'd had a chance to download them) because it just looked like a broken machine that needed to be reset. All because he won't upgrade to the current version of our tools that work properly with the production infrastructure and where having some hardware for a few weeks for a complex simulation is no big deal.

My current ROM has a memory leak in the audio service (I think) which OOMs often enough that I regularly reboot anyways now.

A client recently changed Executive Directors. The previous ED was an Apply fan boy, and most of their work is done online in web apps and such, so iMacs were sufficient for what they did. He purchased several of them. Including a few last year. New ED is a Windows person and hates Apple, so now they have a bunch of iMacs that will not be used post-transition.
She sends me an email this morning asking if I know anyone who would be willing to purchase them. She looked up the trade-in value at the Apple Store, and apparently did so for the older models. She said she would sell them for $437/per. 3-4 of them are 27" models purchased last year.
Status: I will take all of them.
Bonus Status: She proposed that we work out a trade on credit for IT support, which lowers my cost basis even more.

Joshua,
When we first met there was a spark. You were looking for insight on mobile and web testing, and I was looking to share it. We were a match made in heaven.
Will you give me a second chance to be the test automation authority in your life? We have so much in common, like our love for continuous testing. Please don’t let me go yet!

Status: Discovered today that one of my colleagues likes to do this:
enum { ABC_POSITION = 0, DEF_POSITION = 1, GHI_POSITION = 2 }; uint32_t data[...]; // Really extracted from a network message abc = data[ABC_POSITION]; def = data[DEF_POSITION]; ghi = data[GHI_POSITION];
Now I get why the data has to be copied (the architecture has different types of memory with different lifetimes and so on) but what's wrong with using a struct? Hmmm?
-
@dkf I do have a couple of those in my codebase, but they're statistics counters, and require some generic handling (EG aggregation from multiple sources). Doing it for a network protocol where
abc
,def
, andghi
are completely different things is

I've been suffering intermittently from hay fever over the past few days (the weather forecast says not, but I know exactly what it feels like and it's no way a cold or the 'flu). It's ridiculously early in the year for this sort of thing; I wasn't expecting to need to take antihistamines until April at least. If you've got weather like ours, maybe that's your problem too?

I’ve looked at my car on Sunday and thought “it’s too early to be covered in pollen”.

@topspin we've got live oaks here that are nasty with their pollen. Yellow green sticky stuff everywhere. It's a major allergen as well.

That's the thing: I have, and it's fine, but Photoshop was horrendous. I would never have thought that such supposedly-professional software could be so awful.
Should I rant briefly in another Free™ thread? I don't actually have all that much to say, because it was only a quick task that took no more than an hour.

No, different kind of burning - the hayfever variant is more of an itch for me. For me, the antihistamine season usually starts in May (it reliably did so during the last years) so that would be really early.

I'm a bit earlier (April) but this is still really early. And miserable.

Yeah, I feel you. But happily for me, an earlier round of desensitization (took three years) seems to have taken the edge off - I now have to work through about one month (mid-May to mid-June) and that's about it. And that includes the years where everyone else complained about hayfever season starting early.
