Emotional Support Peacock
-
Those heartless bastard's, why would you turn someone away, just for having an emotional support peacock?
-
-
@doctorjones It's United Airlines, the artist should have realized it would never fly. However, it does stop them from showing off.
-
-
Oddly, someone randomly told this to me in a supermarket yesterday.
All I could think of was the one time my family went to some random island while living in NZ (Our friends had a nice trimaran) and the whole island was covered in peacocks, including an albino one. It was kinda cool.
-
@doctorjones Wow what a shocker. A "performance artist" acts like a douche to get free press from lazy journalists.

- The animal is expected to be seated in the floor space below your seat
- We may re-accommodate you if the animal encroaches on other passengers
- The animal should not extend into the aisles
- The animal must behave properly in public and should follow directions from its owner
Customers traveling with an emotional support or psychiatric assist animal must provide a minimum 48-hour advance notification to the United Accessibility Desk by 1) calling...
Meanwhile, I rather suspect Ventiko has an exhibition or something coming up, and this is simply publicity seeking.
-
Meanwhile
The ADA also has a separate rule that allows miniature horses "where reasonable."
I think she missed a trick there...

From that article:
Emotional support animals have become a contentious topic among airlines and their passengers. While it might seem like an obvious choice not to allow one on a plane, in 2016 a fairly sizeable turkey was allowed to fly under the same stipulation.
And then from the article linked in the quote above:
Some reactions on the site to the photo include:
"This is what I get for praying no babies on the flight...", says one user.
"This is getting ridiculous", says another.
Another poster comments: "Honestly anyone who even has a turkey as a pet needs therapy."
-

I initially read this as "Anyone who even has a turkey as a therapy animal needs therapy."
We raised turkeys on the farm. A couple of them thought they were pets and followed you around like dogs if you were doing yard work or whatever.

The peacock uses it's brightly colored feathers to attract a mate.
If this one was just plain white, it would be extremely boring, and would not be a satisfying partner to a female peacock.
But if they were committed enough, that peacock couple could get her to mate with a coloured peacock.
What I'm trying to say is that albino bird? It's a peacuck.

https://www.snopes.com/ap/2018/10/12/woman-emotional-support-squirrel-removed-plane/
Frontier says the passenger had noted in her reservation that she was bringing an emotional support animal with her on the flight, but she did not indicate it was a squirrel. Rodents, including squirrels, are not one of the emotional support animals allowed on Frontier flights, according to its website.
The airline says police were called when the passenger refused to leave the plane. Nixon captured video of the moment the woman was escorted through the terminal, pumping her fist in the air as she clutched her carry-on bag with the squirrel on her lap.

Not as of 1st Oct it seems - they're getting picky...
Effective for travel beginning November 1, 2018 [emph theirs], Frontier is changing our policy for accepting emotional support animals (ESAs) on our flights. An emotional support animal provides support for an individual with a mental health-related disability and is not trained to perform a specific task(s) or work. Frontier is implementing the following changes:
- The ESA must be either a dog or a cat. [nothing else - ed.]
That's peacocks, and ducks, out of the running as well then.
A customer who traveled on an outbound flight prior to November 1, 2018 and is returning on or after November 1, 2018, will be allowed to transport the ESA(s) in accordance with the existing policy.
.. which I can't (easily) find.
Later:
We do not accept unusual or exotic animals including but not limited to rodents, reptiles, insects, hedgehogs, rabbits, sugar gliders, non-household birds or improperly cleaned and/or animals with foul odor
-
@PJH said in Emotional Support Peacock:

OK...
including but not limited to ... hedgehogs, rabbits
They're not exotic!
exotic
adjective- originating in or characteristic of a distant foreign country.
"exotic birds"
synonyms: foreign, non-native, tropical;
Well, I suppose they'll be exotic to somebody, but by that logic, all animals are exotic. Maybe that's the idea, so no animals are allowed.

But they're rather unusual as pets or service animals as compared to dogs and cats.

So, Kavkazskaja ovtjarka would be perfectly ok then? If not, it'd be somewhat amusing seeing someone trying to forcibly remove it's owner from the airplane.

“[Emotional-support animals] might have some basic doggy training. They come and sit next to you or on your lap and make you feel better,” he said. “But it’s not a trained skill and so it doesn’t qualify under the ADA, so, no public access.”
Munson said some people on the committee felt emotional-support animals should have similar rules. Mental health can be debilitating in its own right.
The draft policy wouldn’t leave room for people to bring an emotional-support animal to class, Rohman said. However, “as things change, laws change, court cases change, this policy will evolve to meet that.”
