@tsaukpaetra you see nothing wrong with pouring coca-cola into an ice cream cone?

Should I?

@benjamin-hall said in Nope:
@tsaukpaetra as a note, textbook companies (ie Pearson's, College Board, etc.) are the closest thing to the communist idea of a rapacious, exploitative capitalist entity that exists.
It's in good competition with landlords and the prison-industrial complex (where slavery is still legal in the USA), from my observations.

New, from the country that brought you the Hamburger...
It's INSEKTENBURGER!
Well, hamburgers aren't made from ham, so maybe this one's not made from what it sounds like either?
(No, of course not (video at link))

What utensil would you use to eat that "food"?

That's what happens when you have allergic reactions to bug bites.
Just be glad you don't have allergic reactions to bee stings. My brother does, and it's absolutely insane. One time he got stung on his hand, and everything up to the elbow swelled up like a balloon. The doctor said that he got lucky; if the bee had stung him anywhere on his face or torso, it would have been life-threatening.
My grandfather was deathly allergic to shellfish. My grandma was cooking some once and somehow a few droplets from the boiling pot floated over to his arm, and his whole arm swelled up and he had trouble breathing. They were a whole lot more careful to keep him away from such things after that.

@hardwaregeek It really gets on my nerves when people associate American liberals with the Soviets (or any kind of socialism, or even social democracy). They couldn't be more far apart. The American brand of liberalism that is finding success here in Europe too is a post-modern farcical take on what appear to be somewhat left-leaning politics that a traditional leftist should abhor. And in fact they do, what were previously left-of-centre strongholds are now turning to right-wing populists all across the Western world.
Anyway, I don't really have anything much against homeschooling myself (I realise that the realities of American society and education may be different from mine), I just find it a bizarre choice. Those kids that parents are ultimately trying to protect from society and its institutions will eventually have to come into contact with them in some way, and there is no way that those kids will be able to avoid the arseholes and the Kafkian absurdities that this planet abounds of. They might as well come to terms with them right from the start.

What else would they have expected?
My favourite kind of vegetarian burger is a mac and cheese burger. They shape rather thick mac and cheese into a patty, and fry it until it holds together, and put it in a bun. Horrendously unhealthy but utterly delicious.
Possibly they were expecting something like that but hot-dog shaped?
-
@carrievs mac and cheese, vegetarian?
-
@benjamin-hall Cheese is vegetarian. You're thinking of vegan.
-
@benjamin-hall I said vegetarian, not vegan.
I'm aware that some cheeses are made with animal rennet, but these days most commercially produced non-speciality cheese is not.
-
@carrievs milk. Milk is not vegetarian by default. There's a subset of vegetarians (ovo-lacto vegetarians) who will eat milk/eggs. Advertising vegetarian toast with butter will get weird looks.
Vegans go further and generally abhor any incidental contact with animal products.
Edit: turns out there is significant disagreement on this topic. I'll withdraw the objection, but it still seems weird to me.

And they're all wrong. Dead animal tasty!
-
@hardwaregeek I agree with you there.
-
@benjamin-hall I've never in my life heard of any such disagreement.
I have no doubt that there are individuals who will eat eggs but not dairy, or dairy but not eggs, or neither but have no issue with honey, or what have you. But I'm not aware of any widely-recognised temr for such a diet. Non-vegan vegetarians as a group have no issue with products produced by animals that don't require the animal to be injured to extract it. And the legal definition is in accordance with that.

My wife is a member of several breastfeeding groups on Facebook. You wouldn't believe the number of people who ask if breast mik is considered vegan.
For anyone who hasn't thought about it before, the usual philosophical underpinning of veganism is that since an animal can't consent to people taking its eggs/milk/honey etc. there's no way to ethically eat it. This obviously doesn't apply to breast milk provided by a human mother. If that wasn't vegan it would be a short hop to condemning calves for drinking cow's milk

I'm about 99.93453456234% certain there's someone who does...
Edit: Probably PETA.

@dcon Name anything, anything at all. The most wholesome thing you can possibly think of. Somebody, somewhere condemns it for some reason.

I would, and I'd also believe that roughly half of them are trolling.

@anotherusername Only half? How many people do you think are that concerned about having their infants on a vegan diet?
