If you're not affected by the gravity of the Sun and the contents of the Earth's atmosphere, please let me know how you accomplished that.
For that matter () there isn't any star that isn't exerting gravitational force on us
Anything outside your light cone isn't exerting force on you.

While that would be true, you're forgetting that the whole universe is inside your lightcone.
Just not at the same time

Why, exactly, does Twitter put a "this post could contain sensitive material" spoiler on this?!
That designation is per-account, not per-post.
-
@ben_lubar IIRC there's an option when posting to indicate that the post is sensitive. But there likely is also a flag that they can put on accounts that auto-marks all their posts.
-
@rhywden ...what about the parts of the universe that would only be in your light cone before you were born or after you die?

Which parts would that be? Don't confuse the light cone with "can be actually seen".

@rhywden some events would certainly be outside of your light cone your entire lifetime... I suppose if matter itself cannot be created or destroyed, then every bit of matter would necessarily have to be in your light cone (all the time).
-
@anotherusername Supposedly the universe is expanding faster than light, so objects on opposite ends of the universe would never be in each other's light cones.

Doesn't mean that the matter never was in each other's light cones.

Well, one of these two statements must be true:
- The objects started very close together. (see: the big bang theory, summarized in the opening to the hit TV comedy The Big Bang Theory)
- The objects started very far apart. (a bullshit thing I just made up so that there's a second option)
-
@ben_lubar I have the option in my twitter client (not the official one):

It's probably using a narrow aperture.

Perhaps. But after a year as POTUS you would think that he was used to stepping on weaker countries by now anyway.

If you have to dig many holes (like for a fence), a two-person auger is your best pet.
Huh, I've never considered getting an auger as a pet...
The QA section is also mildly interesting:
Q: So if you were trying to bury something like a body, would you put back the dirt?
A: Yes. The size of the hole and the size of the body would definitely change the amount of excess dirt you have. That excess dirt should be placed on top mixed with heavy 10-30 lb rocks to keep the coyotes from digging it up.Q: Why would someone need instructions on how to dig a hole?
A: Because there is more to it than meets the eye, especially for city folk who are thinking of planting some big trees.
