Ohai. I see you're making rice.
Add some tumeric-- 1 tsp for a small pot, 1 tablespoon for a large pot. Also, a pinch of saffron, if you have it, but not needed.
Also also, add 1 smashed clove of garlic.
You're welcome.
Duh.
But not enough garlic. Like 4 cloves for a small pot.

Don't get me wrong: I like that the Tories got dealt a hefty blow. The problem is it's going to make Brexit a nightmare.

I'm currently running a mafia game on my other forum with a Western theme. Last night saw the conclusion of the first 'day' phase where we voted to lynch someone. I spotted this photo and immediately knew I had to use it in my write-up.

Why does it matter how big their ding dongs are? Is that important in British politics?
-
@hungrier the whole thing is a willy waving contest, so yeah, pretty much.
On a vaguely related note, there are now more female MPs than there have ever been

Status: Part of my job at my school is to ensure that our printers are fed with toner and ink.
Today a colleague of mine told me that one particular printer was out of toner. No problem, I grabbed a replacement kit and opened the unit to exchange the unit for a new one.
Now, those are Brother HL2250DN which means that, in order to replace the toner unit, you pull out both the toner and the drum unit, then remove the toner from the drum and then slot everything back in.
You may already guess where this is going: Someone thought to be helpful and had already removed the toner unit. Along with the drum.
At least those things are not really expensive. But still...

looking at Canada-wide roaming plans, for just a month.
All the plans say "Data: 1GB" or "Data: 2GB". 2GB is the biggest I've found.
I wonder "Is that 1GB per day"?
No-- that's 1GB per month.
Per month.
Per fucking MONTH.
Fuck Canada telecoms.

@Tsaukpaetra he might have run compression on everything on a drive, instead of the drive itself.
Side note - Samsung Smart Switch is insanely good at handling lack of disk space. The compression and phone backup run concurrently, and C hit 0 bytes left several dozen times.

Wait. What?
You roam domestically? In such a way as to be a problem? How is that even fucking possible? Do you not have national telecoms networks?
My carrier literally eats all roaming charges in the US. And Canada. And Mexico. So long as I don't use more than 50% of my quotas while roaming, anyway.
And if I give them $40/mo or $10/day for the duration, they'll do the same thing for most of the planet. But getting a local prepaid SIM is probably superior in every way in most regions.

If a 404 throws an exception, the library is wrong and broken. This is one thing I agree with @blakeyrat on.

@ben_lubar said in The Official Status Thread:

It's formally an error case (code matches
4??
) so an exception is cromulent. And better than where the site reports all errors with an actual 200 and a fancy HTML error page that tells you that you've got a 404 (or whatever the code was). Because who wants to debug client-side code ever?! :((Did I ever mention that I hate some of the shit people perpetrate with Rails?)

It doesn't need to thrown an exception, but SUCCEEDED should not be

If I drive from Toronto to Vancouver, there may be random spots where I'll suddenly be in roaming and data costs $2500 / GB.

Did you connect to the IP AND make a successful TCP handshake AND send your HTTP headers + request AND receive a properly formed HTTP response?
If so, then the you succeeded with your Request. It is now up to you to parse the request and analyze the response. The content is not part of the request layer.

Objection: the HTTP error codes are explicitly part of the HTTP layer.

This describes literally every single country's mobile telecoms. For real. In the US, we're down to 4 and are looking to move to 3.
And yet, in the US, land of consumer hostility and home of the meek, they manage to not do that. AND fix it if we visit your country.

Turned on an old laptop. Installed all updates, reboot. More updates - installed/reboot. More updates - installing. Bets on another cycle?update: Yup. Rebooted, yet one more update.
-
@dcon that isn't Windows 7's fault. It's normal to have a bunch of updates if you haven't installed updates in forever. And some of them require a reboot, and they have to be installed in a particular order.

I know that. And I'm not surprised at 2 install/reboot/doitagain cycles. But 4???
