It just so happens that our server room is located in a windowless basement room. This means that when the power goes out all you can see in there is a bunch of LEDs floating in the darkness, which makes it a real pain in the ass when you have to power off the server during long power failures. Why the server doesn't power off automatically when the UPS is running low is a different story we wont go into here.
After having to go down there and fumble in the dark a couple of time I bought an emergency light and plugged it in next to the server. For those that don't know this is a light with a battery. When the power's on it keeps its battery charged; when the power goes off, the light comes on. This worked well in practice.
Today there was a power failure so I went down there to turn off the server. Darkness reigned. Wondering wth happened I found the light in the dark and pressed the test button, turning the light on. Only one possible reason this could be happening. I followed the power cable... yup, someone had plugged the emergency light into the UPS.
WTF, posting CP on TDWTF?!?!
