But then he'd complain about Markdown.
Only if I ever have to look at it or interact with it.
About 1/3rd of my complaint is that Markdown is shit; the majority of my complaint is that somehow WYSIWYG became passe in text editors.

I think the excuse is that it's completely useless,
If you really think that, you're an idiot.
that there's no other application of the complexity it would introduce, and that it introduces a shit ton of complexity when you'd get a lot farther by the editor auto uploading such an image to Imgur and pasting the link in the file, and having the image appear when you hover over the link.
Congratulations. You just came up with a workable implementation that's not particularly complex.

There's still no fucking excuse why I can't, in 2018, drag a PNG into my code file as a comment.

It would be an innovative way to include resources into your application. Just drag-'n'-drop the image, video, or audio file directly into the middle of the code.
setIcon(
);
playMedia(
);

@djls45 Some graphical programming languages work that sort of way. They tend to not get a lot of traction for general programming.

@djls45 I've seen similar from working with Swift. Maybe in a future version of it? The color picker comes to mind, as that shows a block of the selected color instead of a numerical value.

Actually, it's been awesome since the very first time I heard of it!

There's only one reason it's a bad idea, and it's this: "it won't work with my text editor from 1986!!!"
(Well it would if it were on Macintosh in 1986, because Macintosh's default text editor widget allowed embedding images back then. Because they were like a decade ahead of literally everybody at the time. But anyway.)
