@blek said in I am very very mad right now at NYT (SSC down):
SSC died for this.
In all fairness, SSC died because Scott Alexander has been blessed with high Intelligence and cursed with low Wisdom.
Back when I was still blogging, I did it under my own name (and face), partly because I didn't give a damn, and partly because anything worth saying is worth signing your name to. I didn't have to worry about getting doxxed if I'd already doxxed myself.
This meant I could rant all I liked about my pet peeves (which included a fair portion of Big Tech; and, yes, I was quoted in mainstream publications a couple of times over the years), safe in the knowledge that I'd say the exact same thing to those people's faces.
Scott tried to live a double life and it backfired exactly like we would expect it to eventually. This doesn't absolve Metz or his paymasters of anything, but it does show that Scott - at the time - had neither foresight, nor backbone (if he had the latter, he would've self-doxxed rather than deleting the blog and dealt with it, as he had to anyway).
He seems to have gotten (a bit) better since then, and that's an upside, at least
