Clicking a notification popup does not mark the notice as read

If I get a notification popup, and then I click on it to go to the associated post, I would expect the notifications widget at the top-right of the screen to mark that notice as read. It does not.

I also found that weird, and probably commented about it some time ago with 40 percent chance.
