How much data did I use in 1970?
-
472 bytes apparently
Nice of Android to go back 42 years before this phone was manufactured to use some data on a network that wouldn't exist for almost 40 years!
Bonus WTF: I went back to check something and discourse ate my draft. More mobile data to upload the screenshot again...
-
The nice thing is, it's a lot longer than D-Mail.
-
I'm just not that amused by epoch fails anymore.
-
Needs more bounds checking...
I originally was going to post asking why the previous months usage drop down went all the way back to epoch, but then I noticed there was some usage. But then usually my phone wipes historical usage data after a few months, why isn't this caught?
-
Perhaps the clock fucked up in the last month and the 472 bytes of data were it doing an NTP request.
-
Maybe @Zemm opened Discourse on his phone.
Since Discourse is a software fom 9 years in the future, the user must be - applying popular Discotime and Discologic - 45 years in the past. The only thing I can't seem to understand is why it's only 472 Byte.... but maybe @zemm just needs to like more things so Discourse has something to load!Filed Under: Another mystery solved using Discourse

How plausibly boring. Boringly plausible?
Now you mention it, this did happen. I was using it, pushing the red battery and suddenly it died (not even the "shutting down...") Charged for a few minutes and when it started the clock read 01/01/1970 10:05 or so (correct timezone), then it flicked to the correct date/time.
But really, why isn't there a check that will force it to 2010 or something? Even the shittiest phone I've ever used (Samsung E1070) defaults to 2009 when the battery falls out.
-

Discocount, obviously. (Attention: Not to be confused with Discount)
-
Why would 2010 as a wrong date be better than 1970?
Actually, I also have a shitty Samsung phone (that I don't use anymore), which indeed does sensibleness checks on the system clock. For example, it only allows years up to 2014. If you try to set the internal clock to 2015, it complains about "invalid date" and aborts.

Less far-out. But far-out enough to be obviously a wrong date.
shitty Samsung phone [...], it only allows years up to 2014. If you try to set the internal clock to 2015, it complains about "invalid date" and aborts.
Well the E1070 still works, even with a correct date in 2015, but its days are numbered, since they are turning of the GSM (2G) networks around here within 18 months, so I guess 2017 should be an invalid date - I just tested and 2018 worked. I have it as an emergency phone on a $15/year pre-paid plan. It's in my bag normally off. It has been useful a few times when my main phone was out of batteries and the train got stuck so I could let the wife know I was going to be late home.

An external battery would be smaller, lighter, and cheaper.

You're getting too cynical in your old age.
-
Less porn in 1970.
Depends where you were. Probably not true in Germany, albeit the porn was decidedly more worn and sticky.
Bonus discopoint; your username matches your post
-
Are you sure that isn't 472 bits? That's only 59 bytes....

Epoch fails just aren't... Epic enough.
-
That wouldn't have happened if they were using a strongly-typed language instead of one that stores dates as integers.
-

It's also on a different network than my primary phone, which should help when one of them has a meltdown (has happened before). This shitty phone weighs 65 grammes, hard to get lighter than that.
I have since also acquired an external battery, but it's not very good!
-
epoch fails
Luckily the non-"new and improved" page is still available and still shows usage.
-
In the 70s that would have been something like 21-04-72 . Which would fail even harder now a days.
Could anybody please explain me why in the USA the would write 04-21-72? whats up with the month first thing?

Since Discourse is a software fom 9 years in the future(#tag)
If Discourse is futuristic (it's from the future, so logically(1) it must be futuristic), then I despair for the future of mankind.(1) Yes, I'm aware of the irony of using the word "logically" when talking about Discourse.
Also, the fucking stupid fucking popup from fucking Firefuckingfox about fucking notifications can fuck the fucking fuck off while I'm typing.

Just deny them for good. Sheesh.

You misunderstand. Discourse is not FROM the future. Discourse IS the future!
Now your despair turns into panic!
TDWTF will probably become a rebel force in 9 years... And I am calling dibs on the X-Wing because those things were fun to fly in that N64 Rouge Squadron!Filed Under: Also, how the hell did you manage to add a (#tag) to my random line in a paragraph?!

I would, if I had all that junk on my Firefox.

Huh? There are versions of FF that support Notifications but not blocking them ?
EDIT: Tried using the Page Info window?

Meanwhile in Prehistorik 2...

For ... reasons ... I'm using version 35. And yes, the Page Info window is where the notification permission stuff lives.

Because it's an abbreviation of the older way of writing the date in the US:
April 21, 1972.
The reason your Eurodorks write it the other way isn't because you were super smart and knew computers were coming in a few hundred years, but because your long version was:
21 April, 1972
So don't act all smug about it.
-
Anyway, putting the year last is stupid, so both formats are equally stupid.
-
It's simply a matter of Little Endian (Europe) vs. Big Endian (ISO) vs. Fuck You All (USA).
