Poll: Discourse Tagging Plugin
-
Discourse is working on a tagging plugin. Do we want it here?
- Yes
- No
- I don't care
- Undecided
- TAG_NOT_FOUND
https://meta.discourse.org/t/early-preview-of-the-new-tagging-plugin/23713
-
You might as well edit in a POLL_NOT_FOUND "option", since the poll is broken until you restore it to only the original options you posted.
Also, I remember discussion about the plugin and that it wouldn't be wanted because it only allows tagging on topics, not individual posts.
-
Does it still look broken to you? Looks ok to me now, though it did look broken immediately after I did the edit. When I refreshed the page it looked ok again.
-
They must've changed the poll plugin then, to allow switching out options?
It was broken when I saw the edit, but now it's showing up.
-
I want tagging back, but I'm afraid this will be disappointing. I asked some questions:
https://meta.discourse.org/t/early-preview-of-the-new-tagging-plugin/23713/24?u=boomzilla
-
Hmmm, I dunno if plugin was changed. I added a couple options, but didn't change any existing ones. Which would be interesting, if you could change options after they'd already gotten votes...
Do you like puppies?
- yes
- no
[edit]
Do you like puppies?
- I like them fried in butter
- Hail Satan!
-
I voted yes, but
Or not allowing new tags to be created (and only letting the admins create tags -- which is what we have).
If it ends up being like that, it will be useless here.
-
Is this Tagger? I've tried it on other Discoforums, it's both broken and shit.
-
Changing the options and the surrounding text is pretty much the only thing you're allowed to do. Can't add or remove options.
-
Sam is suggesting Trust Level 3/4 for tag creation....

Eviltrout: "inspired by tagger2 but at this point has been re-written from scratch."
-
Fair enough, might be better as long as TL3+ can create tags.
-

But I did add two options... ("I don't care" and "Undecided")
-
My hangups are whether we can only tag OPs and if there's a tag cloud. Answers were maybe in the future and yes, respectively.
So I guess I'm cautiously optimistic.
-
-
better than #hashtag
-
-
I think it's just annoying to me that people use them in speech, as if to tag what they've just said.
An extension of people using text message abbreviations in speech.
-
An extension of people using text message abbreviations in speech.
The irony of people complaining about text message abbreviations is that their great-grandfathers were abbreviating things in telegrams...same underlying problem (long messages don't get through), same solution (use abbreviations to increase the amount of content you can pack into a message).
-
-
I'll give you that.
But there's a big difference between their abbreviations which tried to keep the word recognizable, and TNLTTYLBBRBFFOf course, I use OMGWTFBBQ often enough, but not in speech.
-

Yes, they should be a text-only device. In that we agree.
-
Hashtags are fun.
I have a colleague who refers to the hash (or pound, for you 'mericans) symbol as the "hashtag symbol".
-
-
Filed under: is the new hashtag.
Sadly, only on OPs to start. I guess this will encourage more topics around here.
-
-
-
(would have done farnsworth but this came up in GIS and i had to do the fox)
-
#hashtags are the new </facetious html tag>
-
better than #hashtag
And what about ♯sharptags?
(or pound, for you 'mericans)
There's something about £poundtag that looks wrong to me.
-
Which would be interesting, if you could change options after they'd already gotten votes...

Note that the OP can only edit/add/delete options within 5 minutes of creating polls (this is not related to the ninja timeout - this is hard coded.)
Staff may only edit, not add or delete options after 5 minutes (again, not related to the ninja timeout.)I think that's still accurate.

I (re-)present this.

I noticed that the script creates the file but soon deletes it afterwards, would it be benficial to hashtag the delete command? [comment out a line in a bash script]

hashtag -> hash tag -> tag with hash ->#topic -> the hash [#] that tags [topic]
It's like next, we'll have a species named...
... the scapegoat.
The scapegoat loves to live in areas that are prone to lacking alibis.
-
Quite. As noted later the the thread, the only thing that prevented me from physically applying a cluebat was the Atlantic Ocean...
-
well i know a guy, Vinnie, who makes a business down by the docks that could help you in remotely applying the clue bat in any number of interesting and varied ways.
-
That post was back in May, I really need to see if they still work for us
-
I really need to see if they still work for us
Is that a requirement for applying the cluebat?
-
...so far discourse has been quite good in forcing good rather than bad engineering.

Dunning-Kruger effect?
-
Discourse syndrome probably.

hashtag the delete command?
British people are often confused by the North American use of "pound-define" in the context of C/C++ source code. They're probably expecting to see
£define
rather than the intended#define
, but it's a different "pound sign".The octothorpe has many names...

The dot-matrix printer at my college (waaaay back in the day) used to print source out like that.

and this is why i tend to call it hash-define rather than pound-define.
:hash:Defined
:-P

A new tag cloud to attack?
-
It looks a little... sparse.
-
-
I'm just sayin'....coming soon to a discourse near you.
-
I'll try it on my instance - see how bad it is...

That’s really inspiring confidence... (That’s probably because my browser is not using the right font for the tags text, but a correctly written CSS should cope with that, anyway)
