Colon auto completes to an emoji
-
When trying to end a line with a colon immediately after a word, the emoji auto-completer pops up. Hitting enter (if you are going to put in a list, for example) automatically enters an emoji. Repro
- Type a few words.
- At the end of the last word, put a colon and hit enter.
- An emoji is auto-inserted where you only wanted a colon.
Some users have had multiple emoji inserted, though the repro for that has not been reported.
cc: @matches.

No repro /mobile
Will file later with the rest.
I'm also watching bugs, no cc needed.

It's also annoying to have : ) translated into :smile :
-
I'm also having this occur when creating this style of markdown link:
[1]:(http://anthro.palomar.edu/primate/prim_7.htm)
It appears that the emoji is attempting to insert at each manually entered colon.

Corrected the title. Wish I could have caffeine, but I'm fasting for a lab draw at lunch time.

Confirmed--if you can believe it--regression

Is it a regression if it didn't do it before?
Or has this happened before and I just missed that fun?

Is it a regression if it didn't do it before?
I plead the definition of "a return to a former or less developed state." where it is now in a "less developed state..." (does that count... it is Discourse, so it should count...)
@boomzilla, I'm stealing that "throwing X under the bus" smilie/mention concoction :)

Second bug regarding the emoji auto-completer, which I likely only noticed because it is more aggressive now:
If you type a colon and the auto-completer pops up, then click elsewhere in the editor to start typing at a different location, the completer stays where it was opened, and can be completed by hitting Enter.
Hitting Enter with my cursor where it was (the top left circle), the emoji is added where the colon is (bottom right circle) and my cursor is moved there. Typing anything instead of hitting Enter closes the auto-completer.
-
-
Noticed. Annoying.
-
hde
Typing anything instead of hitting Enter closes the auto-completer.
But if you type something that advances the auto-completion, the auto-complete menu stays up and changes, and the thing you type also gets inserted where the new cursor location is. Try colon to get the menu, then click somewhere else and hit d. Then hit enter. You get the 'd' at the new location, and the dancer emoji at the old location.
-
Wait,d seriously?
That makes no dancer:
That's what I got when I tried (putting the colon after "no", clicking before seriously, typing "d", then hitting enter), and I got close to what you mentioned, just not actually the emoji (because it stripped out the first colon somehow).
I guess I didn't notice it trying to still auto-complete because I mashed "asdf" (I think), which doesn't match anything.
-
That makes no dancer:
Ah, you're right. It loses the first colon, so doesn't actually make the emoji, but pastes the rest of the emoji code. Worse?

Edit: Already covered, I see.

The popup dismissal thing might be a totally different issue. Guess we'll find out mañana.

You guys are just pessimists, can't you see this is new gamification bullshit?

Also, if you had typed after the line you want to put a colon, like so
this is a line where i want to add a colon to show an example this line existed before n
Then I hit enter and now the emoji auto-completed AND ate my goddamn carriage return with it
(NO NOT MOETHFFKSVING SMILE)-
hit enter

It's a licensing thing, unclear what Apple "approve" when it comes to redistributing their stuff . It is shady. Would be happy to ship with multiple sets of emojis. Or add plugins.
-
Wait, you care about that, but you don't care about rehosting other people's images without permission?
Huh.
-
Discourse doesn't rehost images as far as I know. That was pretty much the only good feature and they removed it.

Yes, two days before you filed it.

I'm filing everything, but I'm marking things resolved if they are.
