Nobody shares knowledge better than this

Will good ol' Swampie be notified of the move? I've only made it about 10 pages into The Thread The Must Not Be Named but I think we'd lose a certain je ne sais quoi without it. I mean, if we're already losing tags and Signature Guy, we're going to have to have all the speed, reliability, and convenience of SSDS, right?

Oh, I think Discourse already provides the speed and convenience we've come to expect from SSDS. But can you imagine the endless scrolling of a Swampy thread?
-
If Swampie's using VB5, I doubt he has a computer which can support a modern browser which I'm sure is required for Discourse. I wouldn't be surprised if he's still running IE 5.5.
That said, I found out about this new system by getting an email about it. I'm sure he got the email as well and even archived it in his SSDS for random-random fast-forwarding action.
-
I will notify him. I am already subscribed to his youtube stream.
-
I lied. I am not subscribed.

Nagesh, your new avatar is goddamned terrifying.
It needs to suddenly shift direction, but only every 30 seconds.

I second this. It's like opening that sutter cane book in "In the mouth of madness"

You don't have to reply to every thread to watch it. Have a look through your user preferences.

Why am I unable to upload images?

Why am I unable to upload images?
Because you've just joined and are a new user. Once your trust level goes up to level 1 you should be able to post images.

I wish to start at higher level of trust.

You're high enough as it is, buddy.

Not sure why you weren't included to begin with.
Anyway, it doesn't take that long to go from 0 to 1. Read a few threads, read quite a few more posts, hang around the forum for a while...
Oh. Look, you're already level 1. Stop complaining; you should be able to post images now.
-
Not sure why you weren't included to begin with.
It is usual case of discrimination that is happening all over the world.

<hr>Filed Under: ModhoodYou can't skip a level. You're a prole, you need to be working on getting into the Outer Party by ingratiating yourself with Outer Partisans. You can't just skip right to the Inner Party.

Filed under: Discourse stress test time
I set my test Discourse install to make a topic with a million posts. As of now, it's up to 315,092.
-
Make sure to show us the UI, I'd like to see how the green bar holds up.
-
Somewhere around the 17500 post mark it gives up on telling you the number of posts in the topic and just shows the current location without the "of X".
-
Hey, that's weird:

-
Con: CPU constantly at 400% usage.
Pro: Singlehandedly solved America's job crisis.
-
So, community project: replicate all the posts in this thread from the old forum... preferably just before the folks who are looking at doing an import get that sorted out.
-
I think you uploaded the wrong video. There were no birds on the wires you shot with your camera.
-
New high score!

Does this server do Polls? I hope so?
-
It does, but it has to be the first post in a topic and the topic title has to start with
Poll:
. It uses the first markdown list in the first post in the topic as the poll.

How else would you? I mean, this is not merely "hardly discoverable" or even "undiscoverable at all". It's Castlevania II hold-the-red-crystal-for-seven-seconds-while-kneeling-against-the-wall-and-a-tornado-takes-you-to-next-level kind of obscurity.
-
Agreed. Although it does walk you through that last part if you don't include a list.....kind of.
By denying your post.
-
Castlevania II
Castlevania III was a masterpiece though. So there's hope for Discourse II.

Learning sans memorizing - is what random search of my digital info provides. Anything short of this is drudgery. People will hate learning no more!!!
-
But what if they don't have a computer near them in a situation where learnt knowledge matters?
-
I make it a priority to have a computer near me at all times.

Give your brain a poke now and again using Random and YOUR digital knowledge base.
Sharing knowledge, refreshing knowledge, making knowledge fun.
Nobody has more fun with computers than us Swampies. Nope...

Give your brain a poke now and again
I keep a brain in a jar specially for when I need something to poke.

What benefits are there to poking Random areas of the brain, as opposed to carefully selected areas in pursuit of the desired effect?

Mapping which parts of the brain are not functioning due to chemical abuse.

I like to keep several brains in jars, arranged so each brain can poke some of the others with an electrically controlled stick.
