Spoiler tags too blurry

/
ï
\##Current behaviour
Spoiler tags are too blurry to make clear that there's a clickable peen on the stickman above.
##Expected behaviour
The stickman should have a slightly blurred out peen that tempts the viewer to click it to reveal the goods.
-
I momentarily had the inclination to have a non-hearty chuckle in my head.
-
I'm a little concerned about the lack of input from the developers. I don't think they're taking my bug report seriously.
-
You must understand the OCR team really played a number on me, very scarred/scared

I clicked. Size was satisfactory. Would click again. 4/5

Oh jeez, someone clicked the dick.
I guess that would be a... dicktracker?

Somehow that manages to be less legible when you hover it.

@dkf said:That gets harder to read when you mouse over it. Wonderful!
My work here is done.
I'm so glad I have a custom user style to neuter the otherwise-insanity.
-
You're missing out on some sweet sweet text then.
And if everyone else thought the other text got worse when hovered, now you're really in for it.
-
Oh, no, I'm not missing out on anything. It's grey on grey when not hovered, white on grey when hovered - even when it's a link inside the hover since that blue really didn't go.
Bold and italic as well, that's just style overkill.
You can consider it to be a test of the quality of the browser's rendering engine.
Looks like orchitis to me... At least it's not as bad as Wesley Warren.

I might be missing out on 'sweet sweet text' but I'm not missing any content - and I am most definitely missing getting a headache and/or eye strain.

I hate you, @Nagesh.
-
Pretty sure I can guess who caused the 1 on the click tracker.
-
Wait, let me test something too...
Heh, having a spoilered link breaks opening it with middle-click. And every click toggles it between blurry and non-blurry state.
Yet another Discourse WTF brought to you by @codinghorror & @sam.
-
You know, trwtf is that we enabled spoilers here :)
-
No, TRWTF is the way the spoiler plugin works when applied to things like links. There's a reason other systems have it as a button above a div and the button is a show/hide option for all the content - it means that the entirety of event handling is safely dealt with.
You can in that scenario safely mark any content - even videos - as spoilers without risking all kinds of funky behaviour upon trying to unhide something.
-
Wouldn't that obliterate the only use case for spoilers people have here?
-
What, you mean being a dick to people? Possibly. But it has served to demonstrate that what might have been a good idea in theory doesn't work in practice because if this community can find a way to abuse it, it needs tweaking.
-
What, you mean being a dick to people?
That's what I take @sam to mean by the only use case.
Just be thankful they're not spoilerplating the unicode abuse, then the whole page would just be 1 big blur.
-
It might be the only use case here but on the flip side, it demonstrated a weakness of the plugin for other users that should be addressed.
-
I have no doubt we can much improve the spoiler plugin, no argument at all.
However, I have not seen any legitimate use for it here so I am less enthused to muck around with it.
On the other hand, markdown quirks, losing place while navigating large topics, mobile perf, search and so on are areas that need love and are real needs this community has.
To be honest I don't think that any kind of spoiler plugin would not be abused in annoying ways here. (except perhaps for one super sophisticated one that only allows you a spoiler a day)
-
To be honest I don't think that any kind of spoiler plugin would not be abused in annoying ways here.
How about a spoiler plugin that replaces posts with pictures of spoilers with no user interaction?
-

One thing I have kind of wanted after participating here for a while is a penalty flag for a user account that only lets them enter plain text, with zero formatting at all. Sort of like methadone for those addicted to formatting abuse. But like all proposed Discourse features, I need to see utility for it across multiple instances, and I have yet to see another Discourse quite like this one.
(The SomethingAwful regulars who were "testing" our try.discourse site in Feb 2013 remind me a bit of this place.)
-

@sam, could it just be updated so that clicks don't propagate to the spoiler content until the spoiler is revealed? You will lose the ability to re-hide things like links though.
-

In any other place I would agree but without that sort of things going on this really wouldn't be tdwtf any more. Even @darkmatter will give up on the spoiler replies and a lot of the other stuff is contained to specific threads (like the likes thread) and just occasionally bubbles over but inside a serious conversation the real stuff still prevails.

Just be thankful they're not spoilerplating the unicode abuse
