Categories look different

Could we possibly have
posttopic counts that stand out a little more? They're too light and not very easy to read.
-
Btw you can hit b now on topics in the topic list @boomzilla will like that
And you can add a bookmarked tab
-
-
Well, Actually™, it's a topic count. The count of New + Updated topics.
This post brought to you by Well, Actually. Well, Actually - the premiere in oneupsmanship.
And viewers like you. Thank you.

section#site-map-dropdown .badge { float: right; }
Hmm... thoughts?

Resolved and pushed to production. (by which I mean I've amended my post)Hmm... thoughts?
I like it. (as shown below your post)And you can add a bookmarked tab
Now I'm wishing there was a link to this tab from the menu. But don't mess with the existing link to post bookmarks under your profile. Those are different (I believe we've had this discussion before )
-
Now I'm wishing there was a link to this tab from the menu.
We will probably get something like that once I am done building advanced search.
@PJH probably worth upgrading this localization once it hits latest
Either that or there may be a trick to monkey it in via a site customization.
EDIT: yeah, no need to upgrade just add the following to all customisations:
I18n.translations.en.js.topics.bottom.bookmarks = "There are no more bookmarks."
-
-
This probably needs to go in
</body>
to work not 100% sure but test it, there are all sorts of sequencing considerations here.EDIT ahh works fine, except for "discourse default" which should have this patch as well.
-
Seems to work in
</head>

EDIT ahh works fine, except for "discourse default" which should have this patch as well.
No, it shouldn't, otherwise it'll be used as an excuse to stuff other things in there, which will defeat the whole point of having that CSS style to begin with.
The only thing that should be in there is the stuff that allows a change of CSS style.
-
fair enough, good point.

Can we have the clown vomit back? :O
-
Lock icons are super consistent and meaningful here:
Lock means "This topic can't be posted in" except when it also means "You can only see this topic because you have trust levels" which totally makes sense to be signified by a lock icon >.>
-
Lock icons are super consistent and meaningful here:
I recall some typical Discoshedding on this over on meta.
-
Category backgrounds got wiped with this update, too (Lounge, Turn Left, Staff). Those are actually very useful context clues.
-
You know.... even Wordpress doesn't screw with your visual layout when pushing mandatory updates. That's why themes get updates separately :/ it just seems impolite to unilaterally declare you know better than the people who run the site what their design should look like.
-
This is just a declaration of the final decision:

It's stupid, but hey!
-
Blech.
-
-
I am still getting tripped on that icon regularly, I keep thinking in my brain that the category is locked and nobody can post in it.

+K
Actually, that icon (whatever is it) is probably the only thing I wouldn’t mind being removed from Discourse (I don’t really care if I post in a restricted category or not after all).
-
Exactly.
-
Can I ask why Box wasn't made the default for upgrades so I didn't have to go changing everything when I didn't even realise it was an option?
I'm guessing the answer is incompetent dumbfucks.
-
-
By the way, does this update fix any actual bugs, or does it just make things shittier?
-
hmm... Off you go.
-
Actually, that icon (whatever is it) is probably the only thing I wouldn’t mind being removed from Discourse
Hang on - I was sure that icon used to be
fa-group
() - when did it change to a lock?In fact, don't bother - treat that as rhetorical; I'm not really that interested...
I don’t really care if I post in a restricted category or not after all
It's not an indication of that at all. I can post in any category and I still get them.
-
At a minimum, it fixed the closing topic performance bug.
-
when did it change to a lock?
Random question: Can you change it back? Or is that built in?
Filed Under: We don't post much in those restricted categories, anyway
-
By the way, does this update fix any actual bugs, or does it just make things shittier?
It's a discourse update.
-
In fact, don't bother - treat that as rhetorical; I'm not really that interested...
I would, except I already answered up thread, so I'll repost the link.

-
yeah well you have to ask.
-
You know, people who aren't incompetent shitheads who are interested in usability actually do... studies. Instead of just acting based on all their insane whims, they might for example, observe a few people try to interpret the icons. Maybe interview them afterwards.
The worst thing about this whole Discourse experience is how much lip-service these dumbshit developers pay to usability while, to date, they haven't made a SINGLE WORTHWHILE IMPROVEMENT IN USABILITY. Because they literally have no idea what they're doing. This is shit Apple (a company I'm sure Atwood idolizes) figured out in fucking 1983.
-
which totally makes sense to be signified by a lock icon
it should be an open lock.
i'd buy that.
open lock means it was locked but you can see it because you are allowed to
or so i think
-
it should be an open lock.
A key would still be better. Open vs closed lock isn't as obvious. The categories are harder to use with clown spittle now, too.
-
A key would still be better
after finishing catching up. agreed. key would be better.
-
And in case of Jeffing, raw post reproduced:
Old and busted: Clown vomit
New hotness: Clown spittleSince we updated to this stuff, the colors are not nearly as useful.
-
The worst thing about this whole Discourse experience is how much lip-service these dumbshit developers pay...
... to everything.
Spot on.
-
How about making every icon a lock?
- Like: You're locking-in your appreciation
- Bookmark: It's like putting the post in a box that you can access
- Hamburger menu: Why not lock menu?
-
-
-
That makes a sound when you mouse over it
The flash popup API will improve Discourse across the board.
