Poll: Circular Avatars
-
What other stuff are you running for here? I might have a play ;)
-
In discodev-s defense, it's not like this is a huge update. Just a one-line change in CSS.
They can easily do this AND fix bugs at the same time. It's not either one or the other.

I would suggest that the fact that they don't fix bugs indicates that they can't easily fix bugs, which in turn implies that they cannot in fact easily fix bugs and make wild uncooordinated CSS changes at the same time.
So we're stuck with just the bugs plus whatever random CSS they choose to inflict on us at whim...

My Stylish has 137 lines for here.
It's the first time I've had to make it work over at meta though.
FWIW I'd be interested to see that as well...

I'll stick it up in a bit.

The only CSS I have is to change the font to something that isn't Arial.
-
Mine only changes the editor text to
monospace
. But I'm starting to consider more tweaks lately.
-
It's kind of a shame that CSS tweaks can't fix the editor. Then again, I do have Tampermonkey installed as well now...
-
And that is going to help... how? The serverside cooker will mangle it anyway.
-
Yeah, good point...
-
Clearly, the solution is to implement a WYSWIG editor that translates its output to Discoursemarkdownbbcodehtmlbugs.
-
-
"WYSIWYG editor" implies that what you see is what you get - and I don't mean see in the preview window. (Not that that would've helped, given the quality of dohscourse preview)
-
That's valid. The Preview is a lie.
(You'll note that I deliberately removed the Preview from my screenshot, so as to denigrate it further...)
-
Guess how much I care about what "Kris" wants?
sure, in the blaky school of software development, all designers must defer to the blaky for final approval.
-
-
Well, that's good news—is there any chance of some progress with this, perhaps?
-
Oh dear… now they're talking about replacing the blue avatar highlight in the topic list with a drop-shadow…
Update: It seems Jeff has decided against the drop-shadow. This is a good thing.
He did it by removing the last-poster style entirely. This is a bad thing.Luckily, @sam's arguing to have the original blue reinstated. Or at least something close to it.

Not at @sam, but at the fact that he even has to argue this. If new idea didn't work just go back to the way it was!
Does every UI element have to be changed? Again? And again? And...

I'm getting seriously tempted to try and get a Discourse instance running again and trying to fix a single bug. Just because I wonder how long it would take.
-
Careful now... that way surely only madness awaits.
-
You saw the code I just wrote. You see my avatar.
Where the hell did you find any sanity?
-
that way surely only madness awaits.
Too late. He's already a TDWTF regular. Madness isn't awaiting; it's an inseparable companion.

When you gaze long into discourse, discourse also gazes into you.

I really don't see the freak out here, the onus on the avatar default style is on the forum admin, not the viewer.
Why would you make the default so horrible that someone is encouraged to use a formal language to undo the change you've forced upon them?
-
encouraged to use a formal language to undo the change
Dear Sir/Madam,
Please find enclosed a petition to impress upon you our utmost objections to the unforeseen circumstances which have been so rudely thrust upon us. We simply do not care for these circular avatars, nor for the capricious and arbitrary nature in which they were brought forthwith.
Yours resignedly,
We, the undersigned.

Nietzche tried to fix too much discourse bugs
-
I "liked" this but must object to your image not fitting the phrase at all, other than being from the proper franchise.
-
Something round. Something good enough for biometrics should be more than enough for an avatar.
You know, trying to follow this thread and the LHC startup stream concurrently is giving me severe perspective whiplash....

Zap 'im with the hexeyes!

I played HL2EP2 yesterday, and I remember quite clearly that the G-man says "
Well, now, listen carefully my dear. When you see your... father, relay these words: prepare for unforeseen consequences.
"
-
Zap 'im with the hex
eyesvision!FTFY
I played HL2EP2 yesterday, and I remember quite clearly that the G-man says
Which was a reference to chapter one of HL1. Referencing the reference does not imply that you understood the reference you were referencing. Therefore, I felt the need to correct you.

The poll results would seem to indicate they're somewhere between a bad thing and the worst thing ever...
-
It's actually chapter 3, and they don't actually say the line during Half-Life 1.
-
My Stylish has 137 lines for here.
Mine has (apart from boilerplate) 7, to deal with stuff that I don't particularly want to foist on the rest of you - the rest of what used to be there is in
Widescreen+min
html { /* font: 14px/10px Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif; */ } a.title:visited:not(.badge-notification) { color: #f00; } #reply-control .wmd-controls #wmd-input, #reply-control .wmd-controls #wmd-preview-scroller { font-family: "Lucida Console", Monaco, monospace; }
If there's stuff that you think everyone else would appreciate, share.

Shame April 1st's gone, Could have gone
border-radius: 100%;
...
-
If there's stuff that you think everyone else would appreciate, share.
I will - to be fair a large chunk of it is actually the stuff that is now in Widescreen+min.
-
border-radius: 1000%; /* all the radius */
-
Jeff has decided against the drop-shadow
Yay!
He did it by removing the last-poster style entirely.
-
Must... make... my mark... on project... by fiddling... with... look & feel... constantly.
-
a.k.a. how to develop and proliferate WTFery.
-
Information is the enemy! Unless we can present it by misleading the user. That's good stuff.
-
Actually, I have an update on that: meta.d now highlights the most recent poster. But only when they're also the OP.
-
I would suggest that the fact that they don't fix bugs indicates that they can't easily fix bugs,
I can't figure out if this is trolling or if you really think this. I mean...they fix stuff all the time.
