Oh wait. When you said "DevExpress" I thought you meant the "Express" versions of Visual Studio. I'd never heard of a DevExpress code library.
And to answer my own question, apparently the "express" versions indeed do not exist any longer, and visiting their URL redirects you to a page offering Community Edition, or VS Code.
-
Ah, thought your argument was "if MS is opening itself to open-source, lone developers, why do people still pay for components instead of having them sourced by the community?" Which would admittedly be a wee bit strange coming from you, but hey, maybe you were having a good day or something.

If you scroll down, there are still Express editions available.
And those are two different products - Community is pretty much equal to Professional feature-wise, but has restrictions on who's allowed to use it. Express is more limited and separated by platform, but there are no questions asked.

But are they Express versions of 2015? Or the existing Express versions of 2013? I kind of assumed the latter, but maybe I'm wrong...
-
But are they Express versions of 2015?
So, yeah, they're not phasing it out just yet. And I doubt they'd risk telling people who use Express in scenarios not covered by Community "sorry, no new free version for you, pay up or downsize" - especially with the whole push for "all our base stuff is free" philosophy they seem to be pulling lately.
-
There's nothing we can show you, but said nothing is so long it needs a horizontal scrollbar.
-
Maybe the scrollbar is covering up what they're trying to show you?

You joke, I'm still trying to figure out why MY app is doing this...

What checkbox? I only see buttons...

Not an error message, but:

It's useless, but we'll put it here anyway because reasons.

ReWuschel
Cool name!

Reads like there were some disagreements on that subject in the development team and/or management.

String or binary data would be truncated.
Yes, thanks, Microsoft, it's so helpful to know that one of the 50+ columns in my insert statement has data that won't fit. I don't suppose you could tell me which one?

if you manage to get it to tell you let me know. i've been trying to trace a sporatic error of that description for years.
apparently the only way to get the column name is to attach a kernel debugger to your SQL server, break into the debugger at the exception and go spelunking..... and there has been an open ticket to microsoft about that since SQL2005. i doubt it's getting fixed.
-
@accalia Kernel debugger? Is SQL server running in the kernel?

i may be misremembering the details, but i was almost positive it was a kernel debugger..... until you asked that question.

It's a debugger nonetheless. Kernel or non, it's a retarded error that should have been fixed decades ago.

IIRC, a kernel debugger is so called because it can break into processes at the kernel level, not that it necessarily runs within kernel-space (but to be , everything is ultimately running in the kernel).

This error apparently occurs because I don't have the Developer version of Silverlight installed:
But if I go the website listed, download the installer there, uninstall my current version because the Dev version has an earlier number, and install this downloaded Dev version; then I get this error:
Clicking
Install now
will then install the latest non-Dev version, putting me right back to the beginning. :(
And I can't find the current Dev version anywhere.

Used to be my bane when I was writing import scripts for client provided data. I would usually end up replicating the insert as a CTE or something, then doing a
SELECT MAX(LEN(column1)), MAX(LEN(column2))...
query and cross referencing against the column lengths I was trying to insert to. Fun times indeed

And I can't find the current Dev version anywhere.I finally figured it out. Apparently, inPrivate browsing in IE and incognito in Chrome (the two browsers I tested with) don't work nice with Silverlight's app storage. Switching to regular browsing mode fixed the problem.
-
@djls45 Yeah, private browsing has a tendency to b0rk up plugins.
The one that really bugs me is how AdBlock doesn't seem to work at all. "Yes, let's make our users more safe by... disabling a plugin that protects them from malicious advertising! BRILLANT!"
-
@masonwheeler AdBlock works fine in Chrome's incognito mode for me.
-
@djls45 That might be, but I use Firefox. :P
-
@masonwheeler Does FF allow you to explicitly grant permission for certain plugins to work in private mode?
-
@djls45 No idea. I"ll have to check.

Seems OK for me on Firefox, but I use Linux. :P
