now to figure out why they do that when there is discodowntime. i know it's just a case of me missing a callback.

So... lonely, I'm guessing?
Status: Dear Pandora, while "Safety Dance" can with a bit of a stretch sound like some Talking Heads songs, I sincerely doubt there's a significant overlap between the two fanbases.

The fuck?
No, it's a hijacked account. At some point a genuine person ran it. How was I supposed to know it was botted before I received the message?
-
But you replied after he po... okay, fuck it, it's not a defense-worthy joke.

I get invited to be friends with about 10-20 "steam level 0" accounts per day, and they always have private profiles and exactly one game played. I also frequently get duplicate comments on my profile from spambots with links like LINK REMOVED BY STEAM STAFF.

Guess it's time to save and pick it up later.

Status: Bought a new monitor, mostly to use with my work laptop so that the screen is big enough to work productively at home, but also to use with my home desktop. Got a reasonable price, because they were selling their floor model.
Belgiumed the poor, old desktop trying to convince it that the monitor wasn't 1280x1024 (it's 2560x1080). Downloaded updated video driver, but even the newer one simply refused to accept the possibility that any higher resolution could exist. I guess the ancient card just can't handle anything higher.
5:4 looks pretty funny stretched to 21:9, so I tried using the nVidia utility to change the way it stretched. That's what Belgiumed it. Got a solid green screen; no useful display. Force-rebooted; got a solid blue screen instead of login. Booting to safe mode was fine, but the nVidia utility wasn't available in safe mode. Finally managed to un-Belgium it by switching back to the old monitor.
The monitor should (I bloody well hope) work with the laptop, but I need to go back and get a DisplayPort cable before I can even try.
Not a terribly productive evening.

Poking around in the
~/.wine
folder:Huh—what is this madness, then?
Oh wow, it's an actual port of IE4 (from the looks of it), that's been lurking on my Ubuntu laptop for however long... That's a... useful thing to find... I suppose?
-
When browsing with IE4, you have to ask yourself one question, "Do I feel lucky?" well, do you?

If they are honking and flashing their lights you are on the wrong side

With all these people driving on the wrong side of the road? Nah
Driving would distract from the drinking…

Doesn't work on Windows 7
Haven't tested it on my Windows (8.1) tablet, but it works on Ubuntu 14.10.

it works on Ubuntu 14.10.
Hmmm... I'm on the older base version (Mint 17, Ubuntu 14.04 base), but still, not working here... What font does it render as? I have the Symbola one installed but that one's not working for me.

Status: my desktop PC is suddenly incapable of running Netflix and World of Tanks simultaneously. hm. CPU cooling failure maybe?
-
Status: something in my computer is fucked.
Last night when I shut it down, it was fine... this morning, suddenly it has about 1/4th the CPU power it used to. (It runs fine, it's just real fucking slow.) There's nothing in the System event log except some stuff about user-mode USB drivers crashing.
All the computer's fans are running and drawing air except the PSU's-- and I don't know if that's because it's broken or simply because the PSU isn't hot enough right now to have it turned on. (I'm down to only one spare 120mm fan and zero spare 80mm fans. Sigh.)
Running the Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool right now in the hopes it might tell me something useful.
Kind of stumped here. I guess I can tear it apart and clean out all the dust and re-verify all the fans are functional? And reset to default BIOS settings? Anything else to try?
-
temperature sensors reporting normal?
could try to generate a load so the PSU fan should turn on.
-
temperature sensors reporting normal?
Haha no. The Intel tool reported temperature 0 degrees below max. Yikes!
I opened up the case and guess what? I've never seen this one before. ALL THE FLUID HAS LEAKED OUT OF MY CPU LIQUID COOLING SYSTEM!
The slight whining noise I heard wasn't the fans (which are fine, as I started), but the poor fluid pump trying to cope with low/no fluid levels.
Fuck my life.
Oh well, I have a new job, time to buy a new computer! And just live life on this tiny Acer laptop for a week or so. Sigh. I wonder how many pixels this little midget can drive...
The good news is my SSD and HD are fine, they were out of the path of the liquid. Almost everything else in there I don't trust to be undamaged-- the GPU is right underneath the drip and has wetness on top of it. The PSU's interior-side vents are right below the drip. Ugh.

Not usual. Check ABV. 6%.
What's the "regular" stuff then? Because 6% is kinda normal here.
Ok, 5% is "normal", but meh.
