i've gotten 19 flags‽
what for?
:'(
(also i could have sworn i gave out more flags)

what for?
Badge nominations? Going OT in the questions thread? Any number of reasons - they aren't (despite Jeff) necessarily bad.
DC doesn't have the concept of 'good flag'.
-
Going OT in the questions thread?
oh right.... we do flag heavily for that....
carry on then. ;-)
-
now that i think of it.... why isn't @sockbot on this list? he's also on autoread just like me. we should be more or less even for read time.
-
@accalia has summoned me, and so I appear.
-
[postgres@sofa ~]$ LIMIT=10000 sql_tdwtf time_read | grep sockbot sockbot | 1 days 04:20:52
-
.... that's not right....
hmm... TO GITHUB TO FIND HOW THAT NUMBER IS CALCULATED (and totally no so we can abuse it!)
-
```
username | duration
-----------------+------------------
HardwareGeek | 28 days 04:51:56
ChaosTheEternal | 27 days 07:02:10
PJH | 23 days 09:40:24
boomzilla | 20 days 15:46:17Huzzah! That makes sense to me.
-
Buh? I'm in the top 25 (barely)?
-
Note that the table being queried isn't primary data - that is, I think, the massive post_timings table.
Or maybe not...
[postgres@sofa ~]$ sql_tdwtf time_read_post_timings WITH us AS ( SELECT sum(msecs)/1000 AS time_read, user_id FROM post_timings GROUP BY user_id ) SELECT u.username, (time_read /86400 || ' day(s)') || ' ' || TO_CHAR((time_read % 86400 || ' second')::interval, 'HH24:MI:SS') AS duration FROM us JOIN users u ON u.id=us.user_id ORDER BY time_read DESC LIMIT 25 username | duration -----------------+--------------------- cartman82 | 617 day(s) 03:20:48 obeselymorbid | 407 day(s) 06:41:00 PJH | 386 day(s) 10:54:15 Kuro | 382 day(s) 10:49:43 reverendryan | 262 day(s) 12:26:37 ben_lubot | 234 day(s) 16:34:18 darkmatter | 217 day(s) 17:10:31 another_sam | 214 day(s) 01:06:10 OffByOne | 190 day(s) 10:27:08 ChaosTheEternal | 170 day(s) 05:54:14 accalia | 155 day(s) 05:50:26 dkf | 154 day(s) 09:32:05 Maciejasjmj | 137 day(s) 01:54:15 abarker | 130 day(s) 21:22:48 ben_lubar | 129 day(s) 17:54:06 Spencer | 125 day(s) 03:18:31 Keith | 124 day(s) 05:26:55 Intercourse | 122 day(s) 00:54:43 locallunatic | 121 day(s) 18:43:03 boomzilla | 119 day(s) 22:08:19 HardwareGeek | 117 day(s) 05:46:09 Buddy | 112 day(s) 01:59:17 antipattern | 110 day(s) 14:25:57 LoremIpsum | 107 day(s) 21:50:38 Arantor | 106 day(s) 10:48:13 (25 rows) Elapsed: 2.981s Backup taken: 2014-10-28 23:41:25.942728
Wow, #2 on time read?
...
Meh, I don't see that changing any time soon, I guess.
Or #10, given the second query, though those amounts are fairly obviously wildly off.
-
this one at least i know i can change.
gimme a reason to and i'll have you in #7 by this time next week.:-D
and then of course @pjh will just exclude bots from that query....
-
Oh my...
./app/models/user_stat.rb
MAX_TIME_READ_DIFF = 100 # attempt to add total read time to user based on previous time this was called def update_time_read! if last_seen = last_seen_cached diff = (Time.now.to_f - last_seen.to_f).round if diff > 0 && diff < MAX_TIME_READ_DIFF UserStat.where(user_id: id, time_read: time_read).update_all ["time_read = time_read + ?", diff] end end cache_last_seen(Time.now.to_f) end
I guess we know who keeps multiple tabs open?
-
I guess we know who keeps multiple tabs open?
That would be @abarker, not me. Unless you're referring to the second query, then I got #10 with practically no multi-tab browsing.
-
Guilty as charged.
-
Oh, yeah, I was talking about the one where @cartman82 has been reading here for a couple of years. And I know that @PJH has mentioned keeping multiple tabs open. I tend to browse single tabbed, OTOH.
I also don't usually keep a tab up overnight.
-
Oh, yeah, I was talking about the one where @cartman82 has been reading here for a couple of years.
I'm wondering if the changes they made so not-focused tabs aren't polling anymore will change that going forward.
I also don't usually keep a tab up overnight.
I don't anymore. I was only doing that for the Likes thread when I still ran my script, but work asked me to start logging out each night for backups and I stopped running the script in general.
-
hmm... so it's just based on how long one has had what.thedailywtf.com open?
sorry, i'm not up on ruby at all. i'm a python girl myssssssself.
-
hmm... so it's just based on how long one has had what.thedailywtf.com open?
You're the one sending the timings...
Also, what @PJH posted (with the big numbers) is apparently just a basic sum on the timings. Which would mean that if you have three posts in the viewport at once, it would count 3x the time.
-
I've never used ruby either (spelunking through DC is my first contact with it,) but I can hazard a guess at what they're doing there - restricting viewing time to 100 seconds per post.
-
well @sockbot sends 4242ms for time spent reading posts.
because i like the number 42. a lot. :-D
-
@accalia has summoned me, and so I appear.
-
but I can hazard a guess at what they're doing there - restricting viewing time to 100 seconds per post.
Hm... that's weird. They seem to be calling
Time.now
for the requests, instead of using the times provided in the request body? Or what?
-
I guess we know who keeps multiple tabs open?
There’s also the fact that if there are 5 posts displayed on your screen, after 1 second the cumulated
time_read
will go up by 5 seconds.
So it really depends on the number of tabs (although I think DC is supposed to stop tracking time in background tabs) and your screen’s height.Filed under: Rotate your screen and lower your font size for more e-peen, Discourse doesn’t use the full screen width anyway
Filed under: Rotate your screen and lower your font size for more e-peen, Discourse doesn’t use the full screen width anyway
When I was trying to catch up on Likes after a vacation, I lowered the font so I could get nearly a full load on the page. Really sped stuff up by not having to page down so much.
On the topic of linking to discourse not working, none of the links in the digest emails work for me.
You know, the links like http://mandrillapp.com/track/click/numbergoeshere/what.thedailywtf.com?p=reallylongstringofcharactersgoeshereThe reason for this is that every single one of these urls contains the string 'seX', making these urls unresolvable. Nice job breaking it, censorship!
I tend to browse single tabbed, OTOH.
I also don't usually keep a tab up overnight.
I also tend to browse single-tabbed, and I generally leave the tab on the topic list, not on an article, overnight. Except, I have a second tab open to the emoji FAQ, and that is open all the time. I wonder if that's how I racked up such a big total.
