Genuinely Useful Bug Reports

You intend to fix that, though? At some point?
Of course not, formatted quotes are a relic of 1990s era "forums." Why anyone would want them, I will never know.

Will Alex delete all the content we have unwitting created and then start afresh when this beta dies?
Fiddled under: I have questions also.
Edit: One box just failed up there.

sorry @ben_lubar, this is an atrocity: ... (snipped grade-school image)
Yes, Jeff, publicly insult and alienate perhaps the one and only person on the forum who both likes your software AND is willing to develop for it. Don't send him a PM with notes about how to shape up his otherwise excellent fix (I think the nested comments look just fine, exactly how I'd expect). Instead berate him in public. Nothing motivates a bright, tech-savvy young mind like calling their work "hideous" and "atrocity" in front of their peers.
Excellent HR, Jeff. Good jorb.
@ben_lubar : Straight talk? You're better than this. You're smart, you pick up new tech really quick, and you have the desire and drive to make shit work on the cutting edge. Advice from an "old timer"? Time is fucking precious. There are many other projects that deserve your talent. Don't strap yourself to a sinking ship, double-so if this is how your efforts are going to be treated.
-
Yeah the nested quotes thing is really hideous. I need to revert that commit, sorry @ben_lubar, this is an atrocity:
Shame, then, that that is exactly what we've been asking you for WRT quoting.

Without bothering to look, I'll hazard a guess that i.chzbgr.com isn't on the whitelist of sites to automatically one box.

Aaaand the read flag broke again. I was in this topic a few minutes ago. I read all of it. Went back to front page. @PJH added his post. I got a blue indicator showing 1 new post. All good.
And when I clicked it it took me to @codinghorror's post that @PJH linked in the post before this one.
… WTF?

Normally, I'd make a jab at @ben_lubar about cats and dogs living together, but damn, you have a point.
@codinghorror - Jeff, you have a community of coders at your hands, who are also the users of your product. These guys not only spot the bugs, they know why they happen, and can ofer an exhaustive description. And a lot of those people have a decent usability experience. And apparently there are people here who want to commit their time to make this thing better.
You do want to listen to them. You do want to enable, not disable them. Or you'll end up with a cutting edge software which - in your opinion - does everything right (it has infiniscrolling! and is ajaxy!), but which nobody will want to use.
-
since we practice complaint driven development.
That post suggests you're more willing to fix the things people complain about than your presence here does.....

Bug: The blurb for Muted topics is not being replaced correctly for topics that are muted via the Preferences screen when a Muted topic is viewed.
Expected:
Actual:

That's BB code, not Markdown. In any case, it seems it doesn't like [img] tags. Also, it won't let me make the image a link it seems.

Just had something very strange happen on my profile page - it started doing infinite infinite scrolling, endlessly repeating the same ~25 events over and over as I continued to scroll down. Once I reloaded the page, though, it stopped doing it.
Coincidentally, somebody Liked one of my posts while I was viewing my profile, though I don't see how that could have had such a bizarre side effect.
[edit] After posting this message, I went to my profile page again and it wasn't there yet; however, my very first post was there twice at the bottom. As before, reloading the page fixed it.
[edit again] Whee, it's doing it again, this time after I posted another message while my profile was loaded in another tab. And unlike normal infinite scrolling, this one DOESN'T unload old text from the top of the page.

Bug: @ben_lubar infected Discourse and appears to be replicating.
Expected: There should be only one @ben_lubar, stored in a secure location until such time as experimentation on him yields no more joy.
Actual: AAAAAAAAH!

Which is the one unread topic?
-
My address bar isn't changing. It used to, but it hasn't for at least a day.
As noted on another topic, this seems to happen when Discourse is updated. Somehow, the old/new JavaScript / CSS triggers this behavior. I run into it a lot myself; refreshing causes it to fix itself. @sam this seems symptomatic of busted cachebreakers to me.

Bug: When using the keyboard to navigate inside the post editor the view won't actually follow the editing cursor sometimes. Seems to be fine if you're navigating down, but navigating up is broken.
Expected: Cursor and view stay in sync
Actual:The editing cursor is missing from the screenshot since it's actually at the very beginning of the content. This is as far as the view scrolled without scrolling with the mouse.
Edit: "your post is too similar... see the whitespace bug thing which I'm too lazy to look for now"
-
Oh, found one while writing the previous post, I think I saw someone complaining about it but I don't remember the official bug report, so here goes:
Bug: preview and actual post differ when dealing with images
Expected: preview should preview things correctly
Actual: When posting an image, if you don't include an extra newline between post text and an image, the image is actually posted in-line with the text. Preview shows the image being in new line and aligned left, which is not what the actual post looks like. My guess: Images are inline, not block-level. Since preview area is only 50% width of the screen, the layouts don't match.
-
Bug: Posts added to a topic you are reading remain marked as unread, even if the added posts are read.
Case in point, @Onyx's previous post was added while I read the topic, I read the post, then switched topics after scrolling to the bottom. In every suggestion list, this thread showed one old unread post, which was the previous post.
-
Bug: previously read posts pop up as unread again when they are moved.
Behind this simple, one-line report is very disruptive behavior. Since Discourse only (apparently) keeps track that I have read post X in topic foo, moving that post to another topic causes Discourse to report it as unread. With all the reorganizing that has been going on here last night/this morning, I've wasted time on dozens - maybe hundreds - of posts that I read two weeks ago.
-
, I've wasted time on dozens - maybe hundreds - of posts that I read two weeks ago.
In all fairness, regardless of read state, every interaction with Discourse is a waste of time.
-
Also, lol @ oneboxing "works"
Bug: Cannot post a bug report without encountering a different bug. Stuck in infinite loop.
Expectation: Be able to post a bug without encountering another bug.
Solution: Need GOTO command so I can jump out of bug loop.
-
Can't provide a GOTO, but I installed libgiveafuck so I can now call care(false) which helps somewhat.
The downside is it gets a bit boring if you do that, so I'm experimenting with libtrainwreck atm.

Yeah, well if you want to be that way about it, the main purpose of TDWTF is to waste time, so...

assert(whatever)

Bug: topics created by moving posts do not respect my setting to always watch topics when I enter them.
-
Bug: topics created by moving posts do not respect my setting to always watch topics when I enter them.
Could not reproduce. There seems to be a slight glitch in that it doesn't show as "Tracking" when you first enter such topic, but when you enter it the second time, it does track it.
