Can't quote posts that start with "I"
-
I have 10793 tabs open all the time.
Tabs are a pointless abstraction. Why don't you have your browser dump all of the sites into one window you can scroll through?
-
Triple-clicking the last paragraph also selects the Reply button (but not the like, flag, etc.???), which breaks the Quote Reply function.
I find click-dragging from the whitespace at the end of the last line to the whitespace just above the paragraph works well in those cases. Say, from over there > to up there ^
-
Chrome, Win7: It works if the paragraph is not the last paragraph of the post.
Double-clicking/triple-clicking doesn't work at all for me, so that's going to drive me insane slowly but surely.
Of course, that's not at all unusual for me, Discourse or no, because I have 10793 tabs open all the time.
I only have one open (I was supposed to fix an integrations issue about four hours ago and clearly have gotten distracted), so I found it pretty unusual.
Edit: Yeah, it's definitely Discourse doing it. Waited for literally a full minute for an image I knew existed in another post to load.

Yeah, I have no trouble selecting it, but the question was about triple-clicking. That doesn't work.

Windows? What do windows get you that a single, massive text file doesn't?

Meh. This is TDWTF; if you're not already insane, you don't belong here.

Bug: I inserted my noodle, but there is no way to JAM IT.
Expected behavior: Discourse should JAM my noodles.
Actual result: Noodles remain perilously un-JAMmed.
-
In firefox, your playful and childlike instructions do not work.
Aha, this is a Firefox specific issue. Indeed, I can repro it in Firefox. I generally use Chrome or IE11 or iPad for the most part. Rarely use Firefox. We'll take a look at this.

TBH, I haven't read enough of That Thread to get the joke, but that's ok. The less I know about it, the happier I am.

You will learn, HardSwamp. You will learn.

you can import anything.
Except maybe the "Break CS" thread, if it still exists, but that would be of dubious value
on Discourse, anyway.
-
-
There have been at least three of THAT THREAD in my time on the site. You'll have to be more specific.
But I can say that as of about late 2009 to early 2010, I had parsed out everything Swampy had ever said on the site, for the purpose of a bot to generate Markov chains. It made just as much sense as he did.

THAT DOESN'T EVEN MAKE SENSE YOU RETARD

You have brought the old forums to the new. TDEMSYR is now no longer a thing of the past.

I, at least, was referring to the current one, since that is the only one I've seen.

You should dedicate a sub section of this forum to LOL, oh my god, why, CSS http://codepen.io/anon/pen/urDBn

TDEMSYR
Ah, memories of being a n00b. I had to ask what that meant, because Google failed me, and when someone answered, I thought at first he was insulting me instead of answering my question.

What does BRB mean?
Be right back.
Ok, but when you come back tell me what BRB means.

On Safari, to select a post text starting with “I” from the left, I have to click in this red area :
Clicking on the left of the red zone selects the username and avatar, unlike any other website where I can click 10 pixels on the left without selecting the previous content. Also, triple-clicking selects the whole post but the quote button does not appear :
(on an unrelated note, the images in the preview area tend to flicker while I’m typing, but that’s another problem)
-
Yeah, there is a markup issue here. We're looking at it now. Only exposed well on Firefox, but definitely a markup issue.
-
Try adding horizontal margin and/or padding around the paragraphs; e.g., assign
.topic-body
a non-zeropadding-left
or something like that.

You can see a very similar selection problem that was fixed in Chrome, here in this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LH4_fhbNTBw
It reminds me a lot of this problem since it is also highly specific to a particular browser.
-
OK, the selection issue should be fixed on Firefox now with some markup changes. I verified that it's much better now.
Chrome and IE still have much saner behavior (and I would argue correct behavior) here, but there is some additional padding to help Firefox.
You may need to hard refresh your browser to see the change.
-
I dont know if this is still being discussed, but I have an issue very similar to this. There is a 1 pixel tolerance between selecting the line starting with I and selecting a bunch of stuff besides that. It is something that isnt particularly uncommon on other pages as well, I couldn't tell you how to fix it.
I'm on Win 7 chrome Version 34.0.1847.131 m

@sam neglected to mention the third way to get a link to a post, its timestamp.
Can't repro. They all read http://what.thedailywtf.com/t/cant-quote-posts-that-start-with-i/355# to me.
Edit: a page refresh fixed that. Go figure.

There's even an entire thread dedicated to doing just that. Part of the reason CS is being replaced is because it was so breakable.
Really? How come I never found that. Either it's tucked away somewhere inconspicuous, or nobody's posted to in a long time, because I thought I had read every thread that had activity in, like, the last year.
I assumed it was deleted. It's been a long time since I visited it (> 1 year) and last I knew it was totally unreadable, there were bright colors, the layout might as well have been a random sprinkling of HTML elements, and there was also a logout bomb on there that caused you to insta-logout if you opened the thread.
He's talking about this thread "Exploit Community Server", it was the birthplace of Signature Guy.
-
Have you guys who can't tried selecting from the end of the text to the beginning?
It's possible to quote the starting I, but you need to move the mouse to it's exact position (it's exactly 2 pixels wide - if you miss that, you'll either not select the I, or you'll select random other stuff).
-
I can quote lines that start with "I" just fine--Chrome on Linux.
I can, too (also Chrome on Linux) but I have to be very careful about it. Often, I give up and just put the missing "I" back in manually in the reply box.

Hey, forum users-- there's a way to feed input into an algorithm that gets processed in the backend and produces unknown output! Who can break it first?
Oh maybe we can use that for signature guy?

See, as you scroll down the URL bar of your browser is changing. So scroll down to where the post you want to link is the top of your browser and grab the URL from your URL bar. Like so:
