This can't end poorly

I'm surprised that they actually collected sales tax.

Now to wait, and probably extend Buyer Protection due to even slower shipping now.
-
@JazzyJosh the item title clearly says C2 Aluminium, but you still ask if it's C2 Aluminium. I can tell you expect this transaction to go very wrong.
-
@Gąska Except the photos in the listing are clearly the older model with the plastic cup
The seller's store has been open for eight years, so I'm hesitantly confident everything will be fine, however it was $20 cheaper than the larger, more widely referred seller for this product.
It does also have a 15 day after receipt domestic free return policy, so all I should really miss out on if the listing is inaccurate is time.

I ordered something from AliExpress on the 30th of June and it arrived yesterday.
Their tracking is pretty slow to update though.

Why buy some manual grinder from china when you can get a decent electric one from staples for basically the same price?
-
I don't tend to drink that much coffee, but that's a decent point. It's still $30 more than I'm paying, but worth a look if this doesn't pan out.
Plus the hand grinder can be put away more easily. I already leave too much stuff on the counter.

Not too shabby so far...

Also, made in China.
So yes, why roll the dice on buying something from some dodgy company in China when you can buy cheap Chinese-made crap locally.

@El_Heffe
I don't know about this particular one, but I bought a similar electrical grinder for a similar price a while ago. As long as it has a conical burr with decent alignment and a motor that's not underpowered, it'll work well. Making a decent coffee grinder isn't rocket surgery.

At a former workplace we had a commercial coffee grinder. I don't drink coffee, so I never used it and don't know what kind of burr it had, but it may have been overpowered. According to people who did use it, it burned the coffee beans as it burred them.

That's just extra JIT roasting.

Yep, I totally live in Shenzhen. Thankfully better tracking services exist for this shipment.
-
@JazzyJosh AliExpress tracking is useless IME.
It only told me my item was in the country the day after it arrived at my house.
-
Now, it was supposedly sitting at the airport on the 22nd and didn't update that it arrived on the 23rd until today.
I think I'll doubt that the package has actually flown on a plane, unless there's no "in customs" tracking step
-
@JazzyJosh One of my recent packages from China only had a "passed customs" status, after the "arrived in country" one without any "sitting in customs for 14 days " status
-
worries about @hungrier apparently mail-ordering things that need to go through COVID-19 quarantine
-
@PleegWat If you can think of a better way to get corona virus I'm all ears

Walk outside without a mask.

@dangeRuss the masks they wear make that a bit tricky.

Uh oh, apparently these facilities may or may not be open depending on state :S
-
@JazzyJosh Why did it take 11 days from the airline's arrival to the package's arrival?

Customs, and then the time to actually ship it from NY to NJ.
-
@Unperverted-Vixen I can understand the delay getting through customs and to NJ, but last I heard, US customs, NY and NJ were all in the (same) destination country. Did NY secede between 23 July and 3 Aug?
-
@HardwareGeek No, but there's not really any opportunity for the package to be scanned between landing & when it comes out of customs. They gave the "Arrive at destination country" event simultaneous with the first time that the package is scanned in the destination country. Seems reasonable to me.

I guess that's a reasonable way of looking at it. But it also seems reasonable and more intuitive to have the package arrival at destination country event simultaneous with the arrival of the airplane carrying the package, and then have a separate cleared customs event.
-
@HardwareGeek Doesn’t the “airline arrive in destination country” event give you that? They wouldn’t want to say the package is actually there if they don’t actually scan it (could have fallen out mid flight or something).
-
@HardwareGeek There's multiple logistics companies involved and the tracking I'm using pulls info from all of them
-
I didn't know I needed a portable monitor but at these prices why the hell not.
Is there any sites that review aliexpress stuff? a quick google search is only throwing up linus tech tips and people bitching about cheap shite on reddit.
-
From what I read, the biggest indicators of "not a complete scam" is a high number of orders and a seller rating of >97%
Take the seller rating, subtract 90, and you get a convenient 10 point scale on seller quality
-
Hopefully it's moving again?
-
Thank God, someone who's tracking isn't actually complete shit
Should be here by tomorrow, or Saturday at the latest. Time to see if Dear Friend is honest.
I have actually seen more reputable sellers with approximately the same price, so I'm holding out hope that we're completely good.
-
Here we go!
Packaging seems ok
Seems legit!
No lies, that's aluminum!
Looks like a decent grind to me. Looks like we got a winner!
