    • RE: Mashup Challenge $100,000 prize - WTF if Spectate Swamp wins?

Just saw this headline on Ars.  Started reading it and cracked up; immediately had to catch up on this thread!

      <FONT color=#000000>SSDs in 2008: fast speeds (200MB/sec) over price cuts</FONT>

In 2008, SSDs won't come down in price too much, as manufacturers focus on cranking the speed limits and capacities as high as possible. This year's forthcoming models will raise the bar substantially. Handy chart comparing SSDs and traditional hard disks inside.

      Jeff S:  You are pathetic.

Alex:  Sorry, you seem to have lost your sense of humor, the posts by Morbius and MPS make my day.

Community:  Are you really so petty and insecure that you can no longer identify humour, feel slighted for any response that doesn't agree with your assertions, and require elementary school-like moderation so as not to get your feelings hurt?

      think "Fulcrum"

I hate Pivotal.  We are currently migrating away from their eRelationship product- using Windows Access no less.  This is the stupidest system ever- think of a dumbed down LabView with a tiny subset of controls as far as "programming" goes.  It supports Crystal Reports natively.  I hate Crystal Reports. see here for more on that.  We are moving to MS Dynamics CRM and I now get to use MS SQL Reporting Services!  Life is getting so much better!

      Some gawdaweful Crystal Reports code:

    • RE: Mashup Challenge $100,000 prize - WTF if Spectate Swamp wins?

      Now with formatting goodness:

      Mr. Doug Pederson AKA SpectateSwamp

Born 26 July 1948 somewhere in the nether regions of Canada.

For approximately 20 years he worked as a computer programmer utilizing Fortran H, Fortran F, Cobol, and RPG. He picked up BASIC a little later in his life. He wrote systems for telephone companies, Cable Companies, and Rural Gas companies among others.

While working at a rock quarry in 1972, he happened upon a mid-sized rock with a hole naturally cut through it. Eleven years later dreams told him it was a very special rock and he later determined that it was an ancient Indian Medicine Stone. After initially attempting to commercialize the rock and profit from it, the local Indian culture vehemently objected. Ultimately he determined that the rock found him because he was, in actuality, an “Indian Shamen” [sic].

He found additional medicine stones in his frequent wandering throughout the Canadian wilderness and RV parks, and ultimately began using them to curse those that disagreed with him.

Somewhere around this time Doug picked up a hobby of video taping everything interesting to him. He soon came to the realization that just about everything he taped contained evidence of alien life. He further realized that the editing of video served only to degrade the video as a whole and vowed to teach the world the evils of video editing.

He was working at Weyerhauser in 2000 when he left for New York to curse the UN. The reasoning behind this was an attempt at the ending the worldwide prohibition of marijuana. Upon returning to Canada, Doug found himself without a job.

History was made when Spectate Swamp Desktop Search was released as open source; and, though a SourceForge project was initially opened, Doug could not bring himself to upload the source code, nor would he delegate to anyone administrative rights to help him in his life-long quest to make SSDS all that it can possibly be. Currently, that would be many thousands of lines of spaghetti code.

Today Doug can be found traveling from internet blog to chat room to any forum that has not yet banned him for life, talking up the greatness that is SSDS.
