I refuse to install java now, but sometimes want to use a java based sql client called SQuirreL. I download jPortable and extract it into a folder, and set up a batch file to set JAVA_HOME appropriately. This way, java's not actually available to browsers (avoiding some security issues perhaps), trying to install updates in the background, or generally littering my OS drive with files.

Is there any way you can use, say, Python inline with HTML just like you can with PHP?
Specifically, you want to read this part of the documentation.
And thank you, Sir Twist, for pointing us to Mod_python — it looks like the solution to something I'll likely be working on in the near future.
mod_python has been dead since 2010.
mod_wsgi is what you should likely look at. For templating I prefer jinja2, but mako can do arbitrary python anywhere in it's templates (which I believe will get messy without care).

Adblock is for immoral shitheads.
Maybe you already know, but adblock now allows some non-intrusive ads by default

If it can prod some advertisers to be less sleazy/annoying, I think it's a good thing.

Has anyone gotten round to implementing decent tree-style tabs yet?
Well, FFX has Tab Groups under Ctrl+Shift+E, but its usability is all over the place. It's faster to mousewheel over the tab bar when you have 20 open.
But try it. YMMV.
One thing I see in opera that I think looks good is the tab stacking... It allows you to group tabs together and then gives you a windows-7-taskkbar-style preview of the tabs. I would like to see a firefox (or chrome) extension that can do this-- bonus points if the extension can let me auto-group tabs based on some user defined rules. (I find firefox's panorama/tab groups pretty irritating and useless)

RE: Accessing a MySQL database in Python
To add another WTF to the list, MySQLdb doesn't support real parameterization (at least last I checked)...
This doesn't help you with tornado's wrapper, but you may take a look at http://packages.python.org/oursql/ in the future..
