Why is Everybody so clueless on the importance of Desktop Search to the Masses?
I have been building this Desktop Search since 1999.
The visual basic code is Open Source and the exe is
downloadable.I have been blogging and yapping about search in various
forums. Only to meet with Great resistance. When I can organize my video, music, pictures and text
there isn't another program that I really need. With
Open Source and this Desktop Search the Operating System
becomes irrelevant. It started as a text search, then picture display was added
when we scanned in 5000+ old family album pictures. When a search match was found and the next line, had the path
to a picture. That picture was displayed. It runs manual and
as a screen saver. After a few seconds the caption on the picture
can be displayed or not. Then came VIDEO. With slow motion, Freeze frame with Preset or
Random start points in the video (mpeg2). Similar options were
added for music files (mp3)Video is by far the most exciting part of Search. I can video
in a book and go directly to a given page and play that back
in slow motion. I can video in forum screens. It has other important features any Search should have.
Ie EXTRACT. I do a context search for a particular "Subject:"
in my outmail file to build a mailing list from old emails. Then
I search that file in matching lines only mode; searching for "To:"
and I have all the email addresses in an output file. A little editing
removing duplicates etc and I have a clean list. I duplicate that
info with a cut and paste. resort it. The plug the required info
for my search in front of line 1 and 2 rather quickly. If the Next line is a URL or strictly text, that data can be put in
the clipboard for pasting into a browser or as a search string or for
storing passwords. It can run background copies of itself and has some primitive
navigation capabilities. That could make for a wonderful video
training tool.It has no database and can easily be explained to the common man.
All they need to know about computing is, how to use this program.
(Very Simple, I'll do more training video.)Thanks

I'm going to have to spend more time Here...
This thread is going pure weird... Don't you think..

RE: Why is Everybody so clueless on the importance of Desktop Search to the Masses?
Detailed archiving of your info; be it family albums or music files will be an ongoing task but well worthwhile.
With a few keystrokes you can automatically catalog existing "MPG" video, "MP3" audio, "JPG" pictures and "TXT" email records & notes etc.
Moments later you will be randomly sampling your data treasures. It takes some time for Your personal database to become large enough to make searching interesting. If your memory is short then not so long.
This app plows through text files at 20,000,000 CPS and beyond on a 8 year old LapTop..
I have completed over 4 Dozen Telephone and CableSystem billing conversions (ETL) 95% of that data came
in text files, a small percent was packed integer and real numbers etc. The Export data included toll files, work orders, customer details etc. These data were no problem for this app. Many of these IT jobs were for some of the largest companies in the Western Canada and US.
The so called "Big Data" isn't that BIG for today's computers. I have more personal data than all the ETLs combined!!!To keep You in touch with the massive amounts of DATA you'll collect; the app can randomly sample Video or audio segments as easily as family pictures.
Text data can be displayed "in context" or "matching lines only" along with match counts, line counts and elapsed time.Without a Random option; computer resources go unused and your data mining tools will fall short.
Video playback options such as Fast Forward, Slow Motion and Large font captioning mixed with Video segments are a few of the
main features. There is no more useful app than this.See the thread "nobody shares knowledge better than this" for all the details

Back to gathering knowledge... With Video.
I just purchased an adapter from the camcorder to a telescope...
There are game trails in the hills around here and talk of Sasquatch.
I'll be able to hunt critters from my rocking chair..For night time video I purchased a 8" disco ball.
A friend has a very intense spot light.
Combine that ball with a security mirror and you have a portable yard light.. Better than any night vision. When I look at the disco ball box I want to bust a move or two..

@SpectateSwamp Oh that's right. I forgot. You like to combine all of your text files into one gigantic blob of shit, but your videos are a million 5-second long little tiny shit nuggets.
Yes but those nuggets are FAST.

I never worry about power anymore and have my camcorder on and ready to shoot.
You just miss too much in the first few seconds. Not no more.

To share Knowledge or food... SuperSize for best results.
Yup I'll make garage sized 3D copies of all 3 stones. Better than any roadside attraction. They will have to fit on a tractor trailer truck. Maybe even make small pendants of the 12 Megaliths. Changing size of your knowledge makes sharing just that much easier. -

Nobody shares the Panama Papers better
CMS and the Panama Papers
People want to see this stuff bad.
They don't want some watered-down pre-screened dribble from Govt or Journalists.
Give Us the data. On the Cloud in searchable sortable data sets. It's that simple!
All we want is the data. Give it to us Now!...Here is how I'd like to see the Panama Papers on the cloud.
FIRST! How to distribute the "EMAILS" for quick easy access by the populace.
Lets start with a large text file containing important email info that can be quickly searched, SORTed, extracted, searched and examined etc...
A subset containing:
Date time of each email
Sender Id
Subject: info
First and Last (50 characters) of the email message. (salutation and closing details)
For a total of 200 to 300 characters per record - easily SORTable and small.Multiply that by 11,000,000 (the number of e-mails) for file size.
Have the option of downloading the file or View it on the host Cloud Site...
Being able to search this Email data in 1 or more files would be a great start for anyone interested in the Panama Files.
SECOND! Pictures and Images. Let people randomly peruse these images.. Because People are nosey..
Give users the option of creating a wiki like document for each image file and what emails they may be associated with.
come on we want names and details. People out there know far more than what's in the existing data horde.
Along the way we'll be creating a massive wiki like record base of links, videos, pictures for a more thorough Panama Papers investigation.NOTE: There are files and video formats that this App does not deal with. BUT those specific file types
can be randomly selected and passed through the CLIPBOARD to another App that can handle, play / display them.Investigators can search this huge library of info, only downloading those relatively few specific records for viewing or storing?
Why aren't we seeing something similar? This Cloud System could be Up in a few days. What's up? Is there data hoarding, redacting going on?

Google and the Forums are too controlling in what they let us see...
Spectate's Swampies and others will fill the bill...
Search needs results that include SPACES before and after words.
Finding words in the middle of other words is not good.
AND it's nearly impossible to read words, where there are no spaces!
AND If MATCHES aren't highlighted and counted are they found?THE NEW FEATURE With a space in-front-of and behind for up to 6 words ... Will produce patterns and unexpected matches...
AI will need someone with "eyes" to get them on their Searching way...AI will never become anything as results stand now.....

They probably don't promote my stuff.. Boo

Who needs a Sophisticated OS when you have a GREAT search
I posed that question on quora and AI responded...While a sophisticated operating system (OS) provides a range of features and functionality beyond search capabilities, it's true that a powerful search engine can greatly enhance the user experience. A robust search engine allows users to quickly and efficiently find the information they need, whether it's stored locally on their device or available on the internet.
However, it's important to note that an OS serves many purposes beyond search functionality. Here are a few reasons why a sophisticated OS is still necessary:
Resource management: An OS manages hardware resources such as memory, CPU, and disk space, ensuring that different applications run smoothly and efficiently.
Security: Operating systems provide security measures like user authentication, access controls, and file permissions to protect data and prevent unauthorized access.
Device drivers: An OS includes device drivers that enable communication between the hardware components of a computer and the software applications running on it. Without proper device drivers, hardware peripherals may not function correctly.
Multitasking and process management: Operating systems allow multiple applications to run simultaneously, managing their execution and allocating system resources efficiently.
File management: An OS provides a file system that organizes and manages data storage, allowing users to create, modify, and delete files and folders.
Networking: Operating systems facilitate network connectivity, allowing users to connect to the internet, share resources, and communicate with other devices on a network.
User interface: An OS provides a graphical user interface (GUI) or a command-line interface (CLI) that allows users to interact with the computer and its applications in a user-friendly manner.
While a sophisticated search engine can greatly improve information retrieval, an operating system remains essential for managing the overall functioning and security of a computer system.
Mostly bull shit...
AND indexing is a huge threat...
See "turn off indexing" It's everywhere. -

A Friend meets me for tokes and coffee.. and can't hear.
I'm gonna get as many questions and suggestions I can for
my friend Richard. Wow now I can communicate with him..
It will be easy just enter up to 6 partial words and any phrase
that matches will pop up in 48point slowed print...
It's a start...
AND
Pair those with a mp3 audio clip of the same text...
for the blind and me....
And a background jpg image showing a sign language of the same... ****
And and and set to REPEAT
Maybe a short reenactment clip too where useful
My parts delivery friend just had a punch out at the depot.
I could do a quickie video reenactment of that... -
RE: Nobody shares knowledge better than this
@clippy Indexing isn't no librarian... They are the gatekeepers of knowledge... What they don't want you to see you don't see.
Take away indexing and non text numbers then Google, Facebook and the rest have nothing they can keep from us.. It's our info.. come on.
For starters: Indexing should default to OFF on startup.
