I nominate APL or A+, which have their own character set.

Oh god. I killed it. I killed everyone. They took one look at the character set and passed out.
Be glad you haven't seen the sourcecode of the A+ interpreter. I quote one unlucky viewer: "OMG... this is the most horrible thing I've ever seen in my life. My eyes are bleeding..."
...
OMG.... I just looked. I feel sick. It is utterly horrendous.
Go here , download the 4.22 source and look at the source file a/f.c
Wear eye protection.

Sprint is still in business? Maybe they should have a widget with "Number of Sprint Customers" rapidly counting down.
Actually, for me, the "Number of calls on Sprint phones" was doing exactly that. Whoops.

RE: DS game.. in 1972
At work, I find a lot happened on 12/31/1899 ... people must have thought it was the end of the world.

Last year I had a problem where the truthful answer to a certain question was £0.00, but it wouldn't accept that value. Eventually I called their helpline who told me it was a known issue (the official workaround was to put in £1.00 and then explain why in the "extra information" section).
I had a few answers like that this year, but found that leaving the box absolutely blank worked.

The real WTF is that you're doing your tax return in April. Why aren't you waiting till January 29th like a normal person?
Aww... I''m not normal either, I did mine on Sunday... and was surprised to see it report a couple of thousand pounds overpayment in tax (I'd mistaken included NI contributions in my 'tax already deducted from salary'). Just need to wait for employer to give me a P60 & P11D to ensure my figures are correct and that's it done.

RE: "I need the codez, sir" guy posts a project in Guru.com
I read these projects on guru.com from time to time if I need some work, and for most, the question I think they have never asked themselves is "Why? Why will people want to use my website?". Sigh.

RE: Good Job Duke Energy
"Current outage information is not available at this time. As of 1 p.m, EDT 09/16/08, just under 500,000 customers are still without power in Ohio and Kentucky."
Own up - who posted the link to Slashdot?

RE: California's COBOL payroll system
but there is no free-living, natural population.
Natural/Adabas is a whole other kettle of fish. Those programmers definitely still exist.
This thread explains why someone at work asked "Does anyone still use COBOL?" a few weeks back... and yes, people do. I did wonder what prompted the sudden question.

Illegal under UK copyright law. Unless they changed it within the past few months.

RE: Software Project Management
I'm about to start using JIRA (other teams already use it; we're late to the party). I've not heard any complaints from people already using it. If you have a budget it might be worth a look.
