Not overheard, but just said to me:

Invalid Packet Lenght
I'm trying to enable SSL communication between the Thin JDBC driver and Oracle.
Handshake looks successful, then it shows this exception:
java.sql.SQLRecoverableException: IO Error: Invalid Packet LenghtNot only is that a spelling mistake, but it doesn't tell me anything about what I could be doing incorrectly. I certainly don't do anything at the packet level.

RE: Passive-Agressive Uninstall
I don't know, "I do not understand how to use this product" can be taken as feedback that the application needs to be more intuitive.
That being said, spelling mistakes don't make the product look very professional.

RE: Invalid Packet Lenght
Wireshark it, maybe?
Is this the help forum? Was I asking for help?
Actually, it turns out that the version of the Oracle JDBC library I was using has a bug.
Upgraded to the latest and that issue goes away. -
How to return a list and a flag in java
I just reviewed (anonymized):
old code:
List<Integer> myFunc(params) { [SNIP] return resultList; }
new code:
Map<String, Object> myFunc(params) { Map<String, Object> themap = new HashMap<String, Object >(); boolean flagResult = true; [SNIP] themap.put( "flagresult", flagResult); themap.put( "resultlist", resultList"); return themap; }

RE: Pedantic Dickweedery At The Movies
Mythbusters tests Hollywood myths all the time. What is wrong with understanding what is totally made up?
Also, somethings movies/tv go over the top. Like that NCIS episode where there is a hacker and the two NCIS people start sharing a keyboard to type frantically to fight the hacker. Absolutely ridiculous.

RE: Formatting
Oh, so you like your formatting like this?
struct.f = 12;
struct.longname = "this is a test";
struct.ohgodwhyisthissuchalongname = x;
struct.field3 = 17;
struct.field31 = "X";
struct.field_12 = otherstruct.Field_a;?
Yes.
However, I once worked with someone who formatted like this, and it is much worse:
struct.f = 12; struct.longname = "this is a test"; struct.ohgodwhyisthissuchalongname = x; struct.field3 = 17; struct.field31 = "X"; struct.field_12 = otherstruct.Field_a;

RE: Invalid Packet Lenght
It was a joke. The whole "I didn't ask for help" thing is a meme here because of Blakeyrat.

I don't understand why this is an issue.
The JDK has always been for development. For production, you use the JRE. -

RE: I hate Lotus Notes
@another_sam said in I hate Lotus Notes:
@Sumireko I'm not going to tell you that Notes is any good because I haven't used it in more than a decade (and also because is really wasn't good, at least back then), but all of that UI is from ancient versions. Post a review of a modern version.
Those screenshots from the ancient version look very similar to the current version.

It's used for so many things. Vacation requests, support, etc.
Like yellow-boxing gloves guy said, it's not just an email client
