Since robocopy caused the problem, you can use robocopy to remove the problem.
Resolution:

Create a folder. Doesn't matter the folder name or location. I used D:\B

robocopy /MIR /log:D:\nul D:\B [RecursiveCopiedFUBARFolderName]
If you don't use the /log:D:\nul option, it will take about three times as long to remove the folders. Of course if you do use the /log... option, you won't be able to see any progress besides the memory usage climing for robocopy.
It will take quite a while to purge depending on how long it was running before you cought it but it will eventually remove the folder structure... Eventually...
