I always think that if cocaine gets your brain used to it and you feel the reverse effect when you're addicted and without it, why isn't there an reverse cocaine that makes you feel like crap immediately, but happier after that.
Well, my brother used to endorse banging your head against the wall, because it feels so good when you stop.
Shortly thereafter, he took up marathoning.

Over here petrol nozzles are (usually) green, diesel ones are black.
Back when leaded fuel was common, that used to usually be dispensed from red nozzles/hoses.
When I refer to coffee as "Leaded or Unleaded?", people no longer have any idea what I'm talking about.

RE: The bad jokes topic 🐴🍹👨
This occurred some decades ago. A physicist had spent many years trying to figure out the best shape for a nuclear particle accelerator. Thus far, he had made no progress, and the department was losing patience with him. One day, at his desk, he suddenly shrieked, "Eureka! I have found it! The ideal shape for a nuclear particle accelerator!" His colleagues gathered around him. He quickly drew a circle on a blank piece of paper, and eagerly showed it to them. They jeered and heckled him, and finally someone grabbed the sheet of paper from him, rolled it up and shoved it into a pencil sharpener. Naturally, the entire building turned into a mushroom cloud, due to the assembly of a critical mass at ground zero.

Getting information from people
This is especially aimed at those who do maintenance programming and user support, but others can respond as well. (I'm kind that way.) Do you find that with some people, no matter how short and clear and precise you make your questions, it is difficult to get critical information from them?

The minor flaw is that it implies that some Charismatic/Pentecostalist preachers are not preachers.

Why the fuck is that shit not automated? Also, why aren't certificates renewed a month in advance?
Just your regular government incompetence, nothing to see here...
I noticed a long time ago that the government is by far the worst about renewing certificates.

Olympic-sized swimming pools
That's such a bad comparison. Most people haven't seen an Olympic swimming pool. And they're much bigger than other pools so it makes a big difference.
Well, I knew that the local pool when I was kid, which had two portions, would have been Olympic-size if the two portions were combined. I guess that was unusual.

I think the message here is clear. Despite the snobbish posturing of most programmers, VB.Net is the best general purpose language.

Ten points to the first person who figures out where the alias Alice Firstimer comes from.
I assume "Alice in Wonderland: An X-Rated Musical Fantasy"
Not sure if anyone else gave a straight answer, but it's a test name for Fannie Mae. But properly spelled it's Alice Fristimer.

Nice joke, but the Oxford Comma is in practice unnecessary. In order to make the joke, they had to take the phrase out of the enclosing sentence.
You can take my Oxford Comma out of my cold dead hands.
I also thought the whole anti science "celebs" added a layer to the joke.
That particular instance isn't a very good way to show the use of the Oxford comma. I prefer this one:
Doesn't work for me. If you wanted to imply that JFK was a stripper, then it would have to be: "We invited the strippers: JFK and Stalin. " But there's no ambiguity there, so there's no joke.

Pray, Mr. Babbage, if you put into the machine wrong figures, will the right answers come out?
Fun counterpoint: with some algorithms, the answer is YES!
Then the code could be simplified to omit the input.

@raceprouk think about it, though, you can legally be a parent at 16, it's feasible to be a grandfather at ~33.
I had a coworker tell me that when her daughter was born her (my co-worker's) mother was 26.
