RE: Statically serializable
readObject/writeObject don't have to be implemented but they allow you to fine-tune the serialization process. If you're really curious how serialization works, look at the code for ObjectInputStream and ObjectOutputStream.

RE: Was I Wrong?
Not sure about this, but were did the cubicles look used? (e.g. papers, photographs, etc.) or was it completely empty. It could have very well been a "Virtual Office" and the company was actually run elsewhere (like out of some guy's house). And his development team was just arriving there to meet you, which would explain why there was nobody there. I've run into that situation with clients before, they're the ones you ask to prepay for the work you perform.

I think the word de-encrypt is pretty innovative.
Shouldn't that be discrypt?
I don't know why, it's perfectly cromulent.

RE: Minor foreach wtf
Why bother getting upset over it? Fix it, move on, and stop being petty. You probably spent twice the amount of time complaining as it took you to fix the issue.

That's one way to fund your startup.

RE: Management Email WTF
There's a good chance they may be looking for a reason to fire somebody...it may not be the case if everybody is required though. Anyhow, I've been in that situation before and promptly up and quit as soon as I relaized what was going on.

Thread.Sleep(), but that can throw an interrupt exception. And we know how bad exceptions are, and have you ever been interrupted in your sleep? That's hell.So it's a not-so-good loop designed to sleep for an interval, wake up and do something, and then go back to sleep. (I assume the Java APIs include some sort of Sleep() function, but it's been a decade since I've been in there.) I'm not following the lunacy, since nothing you've described so far looks like a problem. Your commentary about the SQL doesn't make the issue any clearer in my mind.
Also, by making your software sleep it might not be in time, because it can oversleep. And all those snort naps are not good for him.Busy waiting is bad in just about all user space code, and especially from with a managed environment. Also, by virtue of the fact that this is java a busy wait makes absolutely no guarantees as to the timing of when a perticular event may occur because the VM may stop the thread to run a garbage collection cycle or something. Even in a non-managed environment, the OS could still preempt the process once again throwing out any time guarantees.

(SS card, Passport, Driver License, Non-Driver License)
Just wondering.. I can imagine what a social security card is, I know how a passport looks like, I own a driver's license. But WTF is a "Non-Driver License"? A document that confirms that you're not able to drive a car?
Please help me on that. I'm confused. :-)
Perhaps a state issued ID card or maybe a motorcyle only license?
