It's been a while since I touched Java myself, but just checking...
Boolean myBool = new Boolean();
what's the value of myBool now? (is that even valid code?)

Why is it that every single demo of an AJAX library has a drag-and-drop shop where you can drag the products into a cart area? What sort of online store actually uses this? What sort of customer wants to shop online this way?! Why do they all have the same example?!
First, what's so wrong about using global variables to store global data?because whoever wrote the Registry class can't be sure that writing whatever variables into global scope won't overwrite other global variables.

Perhaps, but most applications have a state for longer then a split second. since 99.99% of al php code isn't meant to run longer then that, i would consider building a desktop application with php at the very least risky, good documentation or not.
I don't really understand the massive hate on PHP in these forums. Is it one of those things like VB which isn't necessarily a WTF in itself, but because the barriers to entry are so low, the quality of developers it attracts is also so low?

Mine does too. Are you with CBA?
Ah, IE bugs (features!) and the hacks to work around them... those wonderful things that cost thousands upon thousands of manhours every day, all because the majority are still using a 6 year old browser because people are too lazy/stupid and corporations are in M$'s pocket too deep to upgrade to a decent browser. Sometimes I wonder how much better the web would be if IE wasn't so crap.
Yeah, it was reading about how RoR works that sort of inspired me. I haven't really explored it fully, and please feel free to correct me, but from what I read Ruby doesn't sound as fully featured or powerful as PHP, which is what I know, so I decided to stick to PHP.
yeah, I'm gonna say that's a bit of a WTF there. Why not just give an error if the exponent isn't an integer, otherwise perform the calculation? There's nothing difficult about -1^1, -1^2, -1^3, -1^0, -1^-1, -1^-2, etc.
FYI: in Javascript:
Math.pow(-1, 2) == 1
Math.pow(-1, 0.5) == NaN
I just tried it out on my PC then and it was virtually instantaneous. Admittedly, I only have 5 active connections, but yeah, it's not really following the pattern you described.
My bank's netbanking site uses rollover menus (absolutely positioned divs) on the site. They have an interesting workaround to stop the selects showing up over the top: hide all the select elements on the page. It's a bit confusing the first time it happens, but it's better than having them cover over the menus. Though, you'd hope they'd do a little bit of browser sniffing to see that I'm using Firefox...
