The Half-Mug is precisely what it sounds like: a mug cut vertically into two pieces. Obviously is is unable to contain any liquids which means it fails at even being a mug.
A half-mug cut vertically could still be used to hold liquids, if held at the right angle. So can a Klein stein, even if the decal says 0.00 (I know, I have one. I also have two half-Klein-bottles and even they could hold liquids) so if you want a mug that is unable to contain any liquids, bstorer's is the best idea. -
RE: High-tech building + no smoking = ...
Where's the first WTF? Quitting makes a whole lot more sense than expecting your employer to install a suicide booth for you. Would they even be allowed such a booth on a 'completely non-smoking estate'?

Well, it doesn't hold the liquid inside the Klein bottle, or rather, it does, but only in the sense that the entire universe is inside the Klein bottle. but it does manage to hold liquid in one place, and I think the same would be true in four dimensions, especially considering that in four dimensions it would actually have one fewer hole. Just like how a properly shaped Möbius strip in three dimensions can still be used to hold a bunch of sticks together (or, in my case, hold two halves of a Klein bottle together.)A true Klein bottle would be unable to hold any liquids. Unfortunately those are hard to get hold of, what with them being 4-dimensional 'n all.

My Favourite WTFs (song parody)
Hi,
I wrote this little parody of the song My Favourite Things from The Sound of Music, about some of the WTFs I come across regularly. I hope you like it. The preview says that all my newlines have been destroyed, but I hope that's just the preview that's messed up, because I don't know how to make the newlines indestructible. Gaah, the preview was right. Well, click the link to see the properly-formatted version on my blog, if you like, or let me know how to make newlines work in this thing.
Catch all exceptions; what are they the heck for?
Just return nulls that the callers won’t check for,
or show an error box, if they insist,
brought back by loops every time it’s dismissed.
Checks and injection and joins are just theories;
just add more levels of nested subqueries,
lace all your filters with unescaped strings,
fetch from a multi-use table called THINGS.
Love the warning
marks adorning
all your huge source files;
they’re all just suggestions, there’s no need to test
as long as it all compiles.
Code reuse means not one code block is wasted —
ev’ry last one has been copied and pasted.
Make up for duplicates no more the same:
reclaim some space with a one-letter name.
I’ve used these same antipatterns since FORTRAN;
why should I listen to hacks I’m paid more than?
Even my students are older than you;
how dare you tell me I need code review?
Slam resource leaks
till you’re hoarse, geeks!
Rail against that kludge.
There’s no way to beat them; you’ll have to submit
to The Daily What The Fudge.
I haven't made a recording of it or anything, because my singing is TRWTF.mod: fixed linebreaks –dh

RE: 12:01 AM
I've heard people being confused or arguing about whether midnight is 12a.m. or 12p.m. or neither, so if you're going to use a.m. and p.m, then it might be clearer to use 12:01.

Some context would be nice.
Nice, but not essencial. 'Starring: Empty Case' was enough for me. Maybe I'm just less demanding.
Especially since I first misread it as 'Empty Cage', presumable a relative of Nicolas. -

RE: Go to Local Area Connection - right click and go to properties...
I have seen so many tech support stories like this from the other viewpoint, where the angry customer claiming to be an IT guy and insisting that the standard troubleshooting steps are not necessary and he knows what the problem is turns out to be a complete idiot who doesn't even know which operating system he's running or that his wireless router needs to be plugged into the power outlet. I'm sure whoever you were talking to couldn't tell the difference between you and this kind of caller; I can't tell either, since you hung up before the end of the story.
