I SERIOUSLY hope nobody is still using this OS...

  • (thanks reddit!)

  • If they are, hopefully they've figured out how html image tags work.

  • Wow it's almost as if Windows 98 wasn't a multi-user OS and multi-user features were just pasted on. This is fresh exciting news! Thank you for discovering this and bringing it to our attention!

  • Pretty sure you could also just click cancel as this wasnt a logon for the pc, it was network credentials - not mandatory.

  • Now all we have to do is invent a time machine and exploit this 14 years ago.

But, it is a horrible WTF, indeed.

I think the WTF is the convoluted route that animated GIF took to get to the desktop:

    I recall that, also.

You could then specify credentials when attempting to access network resources (shared drives, printers, etc) and also browse to someone's (local) profile to view their content.

  • I have done things like that on other computers before. On a Windows 95 computer once, I have pushed the Windows logo key on the login screen, which opens up the task manager (this doesn't work in Windows 98), and run whatever programs I need using that.

yes, this dialog would pop up when connecting to a network after you'd already logged on to the PC and got to the desktop.
