Horrifying news from India.

  • One guy want to do sex-change operation. His family is saying no, but guy want to go ahead regards. This is example of bad side of western culture influence. There are some good side examples also, so bashing western culture influence in general is not a generally good idea.

Bidhan Baruah, the 21-year-old man whose plan to undergo a sex-change surgery was stalled by his parents, has now written to the Bombay High Court, seeking early disposal of the case or “permission to end his life”.

Bidhan, who says he feels he is a woman trapped in a man’s body, submitted a handwritten letter to Chief Justice Mohit Shah’s office on Wednesday after another bench of the high court adjourned the case without a hearing.

Around 11 am on Wednesday, Bidhan’s lawyer Ejaz Naqvi requested the two-judge bench of Justice S J Vazifdar and Justice A R Joshi for an urgent hearing of the case. However, as the court was burdened with other cases, it put off the case for next week.

Bidhan’s letter reads: “I was due to undergo sex change surgery for which I left my job, but my parents have blocked my bank account. I have no money to pay for the operation fees… For the last two weeks, I have been running from door to door seeking justice, but the court does not have time to hear me. I do not have any money for food and lodging. So I am finally requesting the court to pass an immediate order against my family or grant me an order for an authorised suicide.”

  • I don't think "wanting to change your sex" is a result of Western influence (well, not entirely). I do think it's a result of some serious mental and emotional issues.

Now, if by "western influence" you mean "the government can't tell him if he can chop his own weiner off", then yeah, you're welcome for living in a slightly-less-authoritarian regime, I guess.

Edit: so his family was able to steal his money? On what grounds? And India has "authorized suicides"? God, India's a bigger shithole than I imagined..

I assumed he meant a system of quasi-competent medical science and practitioners.

    Statement ambiguous. Select intent:

    • a) Western doctors are afflicted by an incompetence which makes then amenable to performing sex changes. Due to their exposure to their Western counterparts, Indian doctors have increasingly adopted these methods, making them less competent than they were.
    • b) Chopping off weenies is a sign of competence and the Indian practitioners have finally achieved quasi-competence at neutering due to their exposure to Western medicine.

Speaking of: didn't the Indians have eunuchs? So this isn't their first stab at sex organ mutilation, so to speak..

I think that a sex change requires a little more than a sharp knife. Hormone therapy, etc. But mostly that such a procedure could be done in relative safety as far as not dying from an infection or something after the chopping is over. Given the WTFery that goes on with doctors, though, I just wouldn't say that our emergence from being primitive barbarians is close to being over, as Bones noted in Star Wreck IV.

I prefer to assume most Indian doctors are like Dr. Zoidberg, using their oversized claws to chop blindly in the goop.

    What's bad about it?

    Is this a spambot?

  • I'm scared of it. Hold me.

  • So someone you never met does something that disturbs you, but otherwise does not affect you in anyway, and now you are horrified? Furthermore, you blaim this on the west's influence, when this is still a significant cultural taboo in the US. If you think the US is bad, try Thailand; it's a social norm there. They go as far as to have 5 different gender rolls.

So this is the bad side of western culture? What's the good side, the obession with dumb, crack addicted celebs?

Nagesh, I thought your English sucked because you are Indian; but it turns out the cause is that you're a few hertz away from braindead.

But then again, maybe you're right, maybe I should go back to hating someone just because they live a lifestyle which I find alien.

    The system worked.

Yep. Look at its other posts - it does a pretty good job of sounding vaguely relevant to the topic, without ever saying anything substantive. Rather like SpectateSwamp, but less likely to go off on tangents about aliens or videotaping local council meetings or... well, anything, really. So it's not as much fun.

The fact that people want to leave India to come work for me should be an indication of something.

But hasn't India had eunuchs and other culturally sanctioned intersex groups for centuries? And aren't some of them actually pretty damned hot? I've got no problem with that sort of person unless they're overly loud in rejecting my advances.

How is an attractive eunuch worth anything?

He/she/it makes the best damn chicken and dumplings I've ever had.

(1)They can get a place on The Voice singing castrato? (2)They don't actually lop off every dangly bit between their legs? I dunno...

I am not saying all of US is bad. I am seeing influence of US in some areas of Indian culture society and that is loosening our identity, you idiot. I under stand my English is bad, but then I can speak 4 languages. Can you?

Don't try to stay anonymouse and act smartly? There are enough celebrity people in India. I don't need to look to Holywood for that.

Also I am not a hater. I am horrified. Look in dictionary, horrified and hate are two diff words with diff meanings.

I too am horrified by the injustice that befell this person.

Do C, php, bash and 6502 assembler count?

You speak fluent 6502 to me, and I'll bash your face in.
