  • Discourse touched me in a no-no place

And here I thought my neighbors for frakking nuts for calling the cops because they don't understand how property lines work (Protip: They're boundary lines delineating where your property ends and somebody else's begins)

This poor person's neighbors must live in constant fear over what they'll be accused of next.

  • I don't get this. It seems as this mail was sent to the Sun newspaper but the recipient is Alex, who doesn't work there... right?

Poor soul. So wrong in every aspect, but in the end is all a result of poor education and bad political decisions related to immigration laws.

  • To me, this sounds like a textbook case of untreated paranoid schizophrenia. Without medication, he will actually believe all of the above to be true.

    Sad, but true.

  • If you look at Alex's tags it could just be a spam email begging for donations to help him.  Personally I would not give him money, I would give him some powerful drugs.  Preferably something that is hallucinogenic for the lols and giggles.

Indeed. And given the details of living in Southall (a district of London with high immigrant population), and being a 'rapper' (but "I've produced 10k tracks" Seriously? Even the late Quincy Jones probably didn't produce that many), odds are that said schizophrenia is at least partly to blame on smoking Very Potent weed on a regular basis whilst under 18. With the writer being a Muslim while his nemesis is Indian, that gives you a near-instant religious spat as a seed for all this; plus I bet that our protagonist plays his music way too loud for his Indian neighbour's liking. Mix in an unhealthy dose of fantasy and conspiracy theory, and you have the poorly-punctuated mess that is the OP.

  • I'd say it wasn't a religious spat butan echo of the India/Pakistan issue, as Imran is (I believe) a Pakistani name, and if he's requesting that all Indians be removed from Southall (an area I know fairly well from childhood as I grew up in the next town along) it would make sense. I can understand why the police haven't done anything, the guy is clearly off his rocker. It wouldn't surprise me if he wore tin foil hats and did everything by candlelight too!

  • I believe around here the correct answer to that is to forward it to HR for the recommend a friend bonus

I am glad to read that he is not paranoid. And with his readily apparent education level, I don't see why he shouldn't quickly be offered a teaching job at the high school or college level.

  • Alex, you could try suggesting to him that as radiation is a public health issue he should make an appointment with his GP to discuss it. Maybe that way he'll get the medical help he clearly needs.

    Now that's an idea.

While the email submission did illicit a vocal "WTF", I was hesitant to post this as it was clearly a spectacle of a mentally disturbed individual. But I went with the Hoarders philosphy of "yes, we're entertaining, but we're also raising awareness!"

  • Be honest. This is Swampy, isn't it?

No, never mind.  Nothing about watching golf swings in reverse slow-motion...

No it isn't, no credible reasearch has ever shown anything of the sort, the opposite is infact true, there was a recent study that concluded even heavy daily use doesn't cause statistically significant (i.e. measurable) damage. The UK, however, did publish a study that marijuana use might trigger schitzophrenia in people who are genetically predisposed to schitzophrenia. The statistics in said study were so weak that they could only conclude that more study was needed; which is code for our experiment is a failure, and needs to be redesigned.

I don't buy it. People try to claim the same thing about LSD and MDMA, but if you've ever met an acid casualty you know it's bullshit. I'm not saying everyone who smokes weed will suffer any damage (even if they use regularly). Or even that many people at all will, but some stoners have clearly been screwed up by marijuana usage. Hell, even alcohol can cause brain damage. The whole "marijuana is perfectly safe" thing is nonsense peddled by the pro-pot people.

So.. stealing land may shift laundry responsibilities to someone else whilst you still ponder your sexuality? Interesting. Remind me never to covert my neighbour's shed.

I think they're presently occupied with providing statements to the police. NICKED!

I did specifically say VERY STRONG weed (e.g. "skunk" and its variants) and WHILST UNDER 18, not including adults; some UK kids aged from about 12 up smoke weed, and the stronger varieties (which are all that's on offer in some areas) have caused some of them real problems. Is that the study you're referring to, or a more generalised one?

  • The short version is "jury is still out."  There's a big question of whether these agents have a causative role or whether they're being used to "quiet" the prodromal symptoms that precede a full-blown thought disorder.

There are plenty of other good reasons not to smoke dope, not least of which is that it shuts off your temporal lobes completely while on board.  Use it while studying if you want, but it is essentially impossible to retain anything.  It can worsen anxiety, paranoia, etc.

As far as this particular email goes, the guy is clearly psychotic but the grandiose statements (10k tracks recorded, etc.) have a pretty strong flavor of mania, so based on the email alone I would wager bipolar disorder type I, manic, w/ psychosis, vs schizoaffective disorder, manic.

Who the fuck smokes weed while studying?

College kids, they also seem to smoke it while doing everything else.

I suppose one up-side of people smoking weed is that they're too stoned to do anything bad, like tipping over vending machines and walking on my lawn...

    Get off my lawn.

Interesting: thanks. And of course, for those who didn't already know, smoking dope also causes your blood sugar level to crash, so not advised if you're in any way diabetic. And also explains why one has cravings for Twinkies or chocolate bars whilst stoned. Failure to address this willl at some point induce the dreaded 'whitey.' In other news, I heard recently that one of the milder antibiotics may help to reduce bipolar disorder symptoms (seemingly discovered by accident when a bipolar person was given said antibiotic to cure some other more minor ailment). Which raises a very interesting question: is bipolar disorder at least in part caused by some kind of infection?

I would defer to someone who's fellowship boarded in addiction medicine to tell us all the reasons not to smoke weed, but there are many.

As for bipolar being caused by an infection: nope.  The prevailing wisdom is that it's mainly due to genetic loading with possibly some environmental influence.  No one gene does it as far as we know, and no one environmental factor causes it, either.  Some people do end up with mood or behavior problems after an infection of the central nervous system that may or may not resemble bipolar d/o, but those would properly by diagnosed as "mood disorder due to a general medical condition" or "organic brain syndrome" depending on the clinical picture.

  • I flood my neighbor's house with radiation all the time.

And he floods mine with it as well.

Alcohol is a hard drug same as herion and cocaine.

Marijuana is a soft drug same as LSD.

Oh look, somebody who wants to wear the dunce cap! It's funny that in the first paragraph of the Wikipedia article it states that calling them "soft drugs" is considered misleading. But your first link is absolutely worthless. They seem to be analyzing the overall cost of the drug, not the individual cost. Obviously alcohol is the most harmful because it is, by far, the most widely used. That doesn't make alcohol a worse drug to use than heroin and to suggest so would make you look extremely foolish.

Of course, anyone who has given drug policy more than 5 seconds of thought between bong hits has realized that drugs are extremely difficult to compare in some kind of chart form. For example, many drugs have significantly different distributions of harm. Some alcoholics are just as fucked-up as heroin junkies, but the majority of alcohol users are casual consumers whereas there aren't a lot of casual users of heroin. Marijuana also has a disproportionate amount of heavy users; this is probably because it is illegal so that many casual users are excluded.

LSD absolutely is not a harmless drug, as anyone who has known LSD users can tell you. It takes time--and it's not guaranteed to negatively affect everyone who uses it--but long-term acid usage really fucks people up. Anyone who claims otherwise has never met a 40-year-old acid head.
