Pr0n spam (and more) in the RSS Feed

  •  Goddamit, Clean up the fucking RSS feed.  I checked my google reader at work todayonly to have freakin russian porn pop up past our webfilters.

maybe you could try installing forum software not written by braindead monkeys.

I wonder if it would be easy to replace Community Server with DotNetNuke or something similar. At least that one still has an actively maintained community edition

  • Why would you post this in GD and not in an abuse report?  The mods are cleaning up spam as fast as we can, and we have no control over what software gets installed.  If deleted posts make it into the RSS feed, we have no control over that either.

  • Discourse touched me in a no-no place

Sounds like another CS Fail. but...

Then again I'm not au-fait with RSS stuff and protocols; a 'popular'[1] site I follow on RSS (using Google Reader if it mattes) that uses vBulletin has the RSS feeds showing posts that have been subsequently been removed (i.e. spam.)

Not that I use RSS here - I find email better, hence a complaint elsethread about someone not being able to see a post because they had to log in, and still couldn't see it having logged in.

Serious Q: having advertised something via RSS (assuming the RSS feed gives you the whole content of the item, which is what I'm assuming is happening here) is there any way of revoking the item on RSS?

or is this another case of the user getting there before the mods?

    Edit: Forgot footnote:

[1] A site that has at least 2 magnitudes of RSS stuff than this one, and I'm only getting one magnitute more via RSS.

In simple terms, I scan the subjects of the posts there, here: I read every post.

Not really. RSS isn't a stream protocol, it's a XML-file format, thus there are no commands to parse, it's just data. Clients are to assume that if a post no-longer appears in a feed the server is merely no longer serving it in the feed, but the actual item is still available, since most servers limit the feed to 10-25 items. Also, many clients actually break if the feed returns more than that, eg: giant in the playground's actually caused many clients to crash because it was serving the data for every comic ever published.

I'm not seeing any spam in the current RSS feed, which seems to indicate that once a post is deleted it is gone from RSS.  TRWTF is that Kazan clicks spammy links at work and is then shocked -- shocked -- when he sees pr0n.

    Possible solutions:

    - Kazan should read links and the context before wildly clicking them.

    - Kazan should stop reading TDWTF from work entirely, since he clearly can't be trusted to operate a web browser and some of the non-spam content here is offensive enough that it might violate his office Internet policy.

    - We should just figure out which web filter software his work uses and get TDWTF added to it so we don't have to worry about him posting retarded shit like this.

Wait you are a mod now?

So, to whom might I report you, when your power-trip abuses start ?

The chain of command remains as always: should you have a problem with btk, report it to morbs.  Should you then have a problem with morbs, report it to me.  If you have a problem with me, go to hell and die because you're clearly wrong.

Any further profanity from you and I will be forced to terminate your account.  I will also have to bad Alex so that he doesn't ressurect the carcass of your account.

You could report to me, but in fact I trust my mods.

Oh, yeah? Well, I'll make my own TDWTF. And it'll have hookers! And blackjack! In fact forget the TDWTF!

    FTFY?

Also, every mod here knows that deactivating an account doesn't actually accomplish anything useful, because CS is just that awful.

Also, since I'm such a good law abiding forumite, I've never had the misfortune to find myself in a situation where moderation is needed.

Like my father taught me. "Keep your nose clean, don't hide the stash on the glove compartment, and stay away from the pigs

    :(

Whoa Whoa! Hold your horses there cowboy. No need to get so rough on me.

You know I love you guys. Seriously I do. You are like that disfunctional capitalist family that I never had. btk is like a little brother, morbs is like the annoying wiseass cousin you hate to love, and I thought of you as the strict but loving dad, that never wen't to jail.

And let's set the record straight. I knew you were a Mod long before the times of the incident with "The One which we don't speak of" . I was just kidding around. I'll try to not let that happen again. Sorry if I hurt your feelings. You guys are the best mods ever. If the internet had many more mods like you, the world would be a better place.

    Now how about a hug?

  • @fatdog said:

Only if you dont mind a little hardness in the pants during it, and a half hour of dry humping your leg afterwards, then you can let morb hug you.

Wait, are you talking about MPS, SpectateSwamp, Voldemort or anyone else who should not be named?

Besides, you forgot to mention bstorer and welbog in your little family. Someone is not going to be happy

Although this really has nothing to do with RSS feeds, I find it entirely appropriate that a site called The Daily WTF uses software that is a major WTF itself.

Everyone does.  And everyone feels the need to state it because they think it sounds clever.
