Hi! a/s/l? </AOL>

Erm, yeah. Hi all, I was just reading back on the forums (been a
long-time reader, only recently signed-up), and I was wondering who you
all were, and where you're at. So I thought I might as well ask.
Now, in order, I'd like you to stand up, tell us your name, age, and a little bit about yourself. I'll go first...
Name: Jonathan
Age: 22½
Location: Grimsby, England
Me: I'm a computer programmer (like most of you I imagine), been
in the industry for 3 years, mainly VB.NET, although used to use VB6
(ick!) - would rather be coding in C#, but I'm not the boss, so, nyeh.
-
Personally, in this day of hacking and identity theft, I prefer not to participate. It's all so "Big Brother" to me.
-
Damn it! You've blown my cover

Hey Vitani: you live in England right? Did the BBC decide to start showing new Dr.Who episodes? Or are they still in production?
-
afaik, they're still in production (I've not seen them on any schedules). You'll find more info (and a trailer I believe) on the Dr. Who web site - http://www.bbc.co.uk/cult/doctorwho/
-
I just have to say this. And this forum is as good as any. The weird "European" date-style is <FONT color=#0000ff>annoying</FONT>. Can anybody relate?
You know what I'm talking about. <FONT color=#ff0000>23/12/2004</FONT> instead of <FONT color=#ff0000>12/23/2004</FONT>.
Why on earth would you read the day first...then the month? It's all so confusing.
Whenever I see a European date I subconsciously think, "Ok...it's the 23rd month..."
You can imagine how many problems that causes. [:(]
-
Haha.
No seriously, since when does month/day/year make any sense? For starters is makes sense (as the rest of the world seems to) to write in order of finer measurements; days becoming months becoming years.
The biggest WTF of all is when you write "1st Feb 2003" which mysteriously gets jumbled up as "2/1/03". First one way, then the other? Nonsense!
Do you write Hours:Seconds:Minutes? No, its stupid.
-
That's why they say Feb 1st, 2003 ;)
I'm Dutch and I, too, think the American date format makes no sense.
-
mm/dd/yyyy makes no sence, it's just messy!
The "easy" answer is to use yyyy-mm-dd hhss - starting at the largest measurement, working down to the smallest.
-
Agreed, but its a bit clumsy. Although its the SQL format and possibly the XML way... no the XML way has a bigass T in the middle for the hell of it.
Going dd/mm/yy is nice, because you can abbrev it to dd/mm. hhss is good for the same reason, you can grab hh:mm.
Time backwards is more confusing ;)
-
Okay, I'll play along.

is that N/A as in Not Applicable, not Not Available?

I agree. It would be nice if we had the ability to edit our own posts.
-
@CPound You're right, we should be able to do whatever we want with our own posts.

At least ask them to dinner first, right?
edit: Oh wait, nevermind, wasn't reading that correctly.
You can do whatever you want with your post (not that I'd call it that myself).

I can't help but wonder if any of the people originally involved in this thread have in fact died already.

They've left, certainly. I only recognise CPound out of the two of them though.

Even if so, they're still paying their AOL bill.

They were busy watching that couple having sex in the ticket queue.

I needed to replay the video you posted. So if it went ahead and replayed from the specified start time and not the very beginning, that'd've been great.
