DailyWTF RSS in iGoogle Google Reader crashing Firefox

  • I view TheDailyWTF in Google Reader, via the iGoogle app, with Firefox 3.0.10 on Windows XP. Almost every time when I open any article's preview, Firefox crashes. I suspect it might be due to one of my add-ons but as I only get one or two chances a day to reproduce, it's been slow eliminating culprits. Anyone else seen this problem?

  • I don't do the RSS reader thing, so I can't assist in that.

If you disable addons binarily, you'll eliminate a lot faster.

Exactly how many dozens upon dozens of addons do you have? I have 5.

  • Yeah, I could, but I don't want to do without more than I can and I'm trying to eliminate likely suspects. I have 12 right now.

Actually now that I think of it I guess I could go in to reader and mark stuff unread to get it to show up again...

People get along without computers just fine, so I think you can do without a few addons. ;)

Besides, you're bugzapping a major error, so temporarily giving up a bit of luxury to permanently improve your browsing life seems a small price.

  • I just want to step in and say that I do not experience this issue.  I have firebug, noscript, jetpack, greasemonkey, and ietab installed.

  • Discourse touched me in a no-no place

I also do not have any problems. Firebug, Glasser, Oldbar, Stylish, VMWare Remote Console, Youtube Comment Snob.

On an unrelated note, Youtube Comment Snob is the greatest software ever developed.

Comment Snob or not, you're still reading YouTube comments.  The greatest software ever will be the one that controls the hunterbots that seek and destroy YouTube commenters.

In your own words, before I look it up, tell me what this is.

  • Discourse touched me in a no-no place

It collapses Youtube comments which don't have proper capitalization, punctuation, spelling, profranity, etc. thus hiding them from view.

End result, I don't see ANY comments with the unfortunate exception of the occasional person who managed to insult another user without making any mistakes.

The primary reason I use it is to hide the vast majority of comments from view so my IQ doesn't slowly leech away while I watch the damn video. It has nothing at all to do with actually reading the comments (which I don't do)

There's a pref on YouTube to just hide all comments.  Seems easier than using a Firefox extension.

... Youtube has preferences? Does that like, require an account?

Some of them do, but the "Hide Comments" box appears to just be a cookie that works without an account.  Next to the header that says "Text Comments" on any page, just click "Options" and then check "Hide Comments".  Seems to work fine for me.

     Please have my man-babies.

If it crashes "almost every time" then depending on your definition of "almost", you could just keep trying it with different addons until it works...
