The amazing reappearing feeds

  • Alex,

What the hell is going on with the RSS feed? Every day about 20 old articles reappear, probably because someone though it was a great idea to change the dc:date every time a new comment is added. The content of the post never changes, it's just the slash:comments element gets incremented.

Is there an oracle backend on this? [6]

Heh, SQL Server ... but honestly, it's layers and layers of code. Can't just edit rss.aspx, as it consumes the Rss Class ... which consumes the ThreadListclass ... you get the idea ... I'm tempted to write a XSL to use against SQLXML and use that for the feed.

Didn't realize this was an issue .... I'll spend some time on it tonite. Gotta add the Comments RSS in there too ...

  • It's really only annoying when I use newsgator's web version, in outlook I just mark them as read.

  • (oh and the forum rendering in Firefox is a little off, half the time
the posts take up about 200px wide instead of filling the screen)

  • Yep. Like this time here at my place...

  • he got annoyed with old things reappearing before it was cool

    newsgator

Sounds like a Web 2.0 bullshit company that got bought out, pivoted to "enterprise consulting" or some other non-product, and now exists solely on overvalued VC capital.

    Let's see:

Sitrion (formerly NewsGator Technologies) is a multinational software company headquartered in Denver, Colorado. Sitrion develops and markets mobility and collaboration software. It was founded in 2004 under the name NewsGator. It was initially a consumer company focused on RSS aggregation, before shifting its focus to the enterprise market. The company raised $12 million in funding in 2007 and acquired Tomoye in 2010. In 2013 NewsGator acquired Sitrion, and in 2014 chose to keep the same name.

Okay, so it's the one that did the acquiring of other bullshit companies, but otherwise fairly spot on.
