  • The thing to remember, though, is that it's not really "first thread ever", it's "thread with the oldest last reply". So whenever someone replies to the old thread by mistake, a new thread gets to be the most ancient. Of course, tracking by threads rather than by posts is TRWTF (and also results in the "deleted spam was posted in this thread, so it's new!" behaviour being complained about here).
