The joy of a good sys admin

  • A bad sys admin can make your life hell, but there's this guy at my shop I'm working with that is the best sys admin I've ever worked with, and is not a dick. I feel giddy as a schoolgirl. It's like having a great DBA. You forget how much someone with specialized knowledge in that area can help you.

Yea its great! Specialy when he teaches you how to hack your home wireless router and have it fuck up neighbor's wireless phones/cellphones.

    Ew man crush.

  • Suggestion: instead of telling us tell his manager he's the greatest thing since the wheel. A brief semi-formal letter or e-mail or if your company has a recognition program geared toward this...

    Yes, definitely gross.

My company is too small for the letter, but I have mentioned it to the responsible parties in passing. If I make a formal declaration I'm afraid I will acheive a certain level of gayness I'm not really ready for.

Haha - he's white hat all the way, but I bet he has the knowledge.

You are going to have to come out of the closet with your man crush sometime...

You're right, no sense hiding from the truth. Please note my new avatar.

LMAO!!! I noticed it as soon as the thread loaded, and I immediately went: O_o

WTF!? Gay != Giving Credit Where Credit Is Due

God I'm surrounded by a bunch of homophobes ...

    Homonyms ...

    gay

1.having or showing a merry, lively mood: gay spirits; gay music.

2.bright or showy: gay colors; gay ornaments.
3.given to or abounding in social or other pleasures: a gay social season.
4.licentious; dissipated; wanton: The baron is a gay old rogue with an eye for the ladies.

When I first started here, when the place was a private company, the owner was a deeply religious person. He said a group prayer at any company lunches and stuff like that. We had to make sure he never heard any word that countered hardcore Christian beliefs, as well as words like "beer" or "liquor" or any profanities. Now, it's amazing how many profanities are freely shouted out.

I'm basically agnostic and don't care one way or another. My "best friend" co-worker is a Muslim from Bangladesh. We don't have any gays here, though.

    Homonyms ...

Archaic definitions don't fly anymore. I like telling homophobes that "faggot" is not an appropriate term for a homosexual. Even my grandmother thinks of it in the original meaning.

No, but the thread was pretty boring without picking on the OP for his man crush.

Giving credit where it is due is one thing, but gushing like a schoolgirl is a little odd.

I was being funny  -- funny haha, not funny queer, mmmhmmm

I know. And I was extending the joke by making fun of that.

It's ok. I use the phrase "giddy as a schoolgirl" sometimes as well. It's rare that I feel that way, though. Nowadays, I'd settle for "high as a kite", but I have adverse reactions with ganja, so even that's out.

Drunk as a skunk works for me...

Funny, everytime I see your new avatar I think of some pot leaf advertisement type of thing... Just that split second reaction...

That would result in Mr. Hyde for me. The only thing I've found that works is the -codone stuff. It makes me feel niiiiice, and I become chatty and friendly. My wife likes it. But, I'm not about to buy that stuff off the street for various reasons.

Sweet! I wonder what else people think of when they see it.

There's another definition basically means acting in a sissyish, overly-emotive way, not necessarily associated with really being gay, and not that there's anything wrong with that either...

Sir, I feel your lack of appropriate emoticon use is making it difficult for me to understand your sense of humor.

Oddly enough, there is now another definition of "sissyish" which is now associated with really being gay....

I shouldn't have stripped the orange rule :/. Anyways, refer to the "Medical WTF" thread. It's the rule about talking to MPS.
